One UD does not a bad night make Mad X. And as I already mentioned yes Richie/Troy was good. You don't need to be technically perfect to win in any sport, let alone MMA, sometimes you just land the fight ending shot first.
"Wish we got to see more prelims, they all ended in the 1st round."
Um.. They showed 7 of the 9 fights. I am having a hard time complaining for once.
"Lots of real good fights tonight, great show."
You must be a fan of one sided beat-downs. I agree with Mad Xy, except I liked the Hightower-Mandalonez fight as well.
I thought it was great. One of the better cards, for sure.
Great fights all around and congrats to Ben Saunders!
solid B
forgot about the other 2 matches.
Roman won in 23 seconds!
"That was seriously one of the best shows I have ever seen. It should go down as an all time great."
For free tv this show gets an A+. It was a great night of fights. But in terms of being an all time great show, lmao.
if you were to replace the fighters with big names but have the fights go the exact same way. same expectations of fighter A and B everything the same.
would you consider it an all time great?
"if you were to replace the fighters with big names but have the fights go the exact same way. same expectations of fighter A and B everything the same. would you consider it an all time great?"
Absolutely.
And that's the problem - some people prefer fighters to fights, such that Guida - Huerta would have somehow been a "better" fight had it happened EXACTLY THE SAME WAY (punch for punch, step for step) with Couture - Fedor or some such.
Other folks enjoy watching fights without either hating someone or else swinging from someone's jock - and consequently, a good display of skill is entertaining no matter who puts it on.
Although I can see how some people are splitting a hair correctly - this was not a great card (in that it had very few marquee names), but it was a great event. There's a difference. I mean, UFC 33 was a great card, and we know how that turned out :-P
"I'm curious to hear what shows were better."
- Uhhh, Pride 2005 MW GP, Bushido GP, 2003 MW GP, UFC 40, UFC 52, Pride 10, 2000 Pride GP, UFC 4, Vale Tudo Japan Open '98...
That's the kind of competition you're up against when you're talking about "all time great show."
Last night's UFN turned out to be a truly great event - but "all time"???
Give me a break.
"if you were to replace the fighters with big names but have the fights go the exact same way. same expectations of fighter A and B everything the same.

- Definitely.
If a fight or event means more, is anticipated more, and will have more lasting significance - guess what?
The fulfillment is greater as well.
When the electricity of excitement before the event is palpable, and the event itself actually lives up to the hype and generates even more crackle, the tingle will stay with you forever.
Higher expectations mean higher standards - and when those high standards are met or even exceeded, then that is as high a high and as great as an event can get.
Great night of fights!!! I couldn't have been happier watching it.
A- !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
^^^ (referring to TedBennett's post)
Yea, way to take the first word out of context and then write a response, asshole...
ROFL - a little thin-skinned, are ya, dude?

Here's the problem again - you think that way, and you think EVERYONE thinks that way. Guess what - no.
When the electricity of excitement before the event is palpable, and the event itself actually lives up to the hype and generates even more crackle, the tingle will stay with you forever.
And yet more often than not, it doesn't - that's why I don't usually bother getting super-excited over given match-ups, most are disappointing. I take each fight as it comes.
Higher expectations mean higher standards - and when those high standards are met or even exceeded, then that is as high a high and as great as an event can get.
I find that that's rare, and I appreciate it when surprises occur. I don't bitch about their faults.
9.5/10
Fucking incredible event.
Better than the fix I saw on HBO boxing.
Dave83: I'm being immature, honestly. But the reffing and the Judging was really fucked up. Mayweather finishing the fight is what saved Boxing from a MASSIVE shitstorm.

So Ted, would you be happy with the UFC dropping their top tier fighters in favor of having nothing but TUF fighters, provided that the fights remain exciting as the Guida/Huerta fight?
What if they roll in D level fighters? What if they showed fights between 12 year olds that went down exactly the same way, punch for punch, etc. Would this still be the best show of all time?
