UK - To abandon herd immunity for Covid - everyone will get the virus. Endemic status

New data. Senior advisers (in Government) to recommend new policies.

The vaccines have been successful at preventing (and reducing) serious illness and death (95%). But the higher transmissiblity of Delta variant means that Covid can break through vaccination, and will become like the Flu, and is here to stay.

Changes likely:

UK will stop testing and counting cases.
Mask use will be optional, but not be recommended
Vaccine passports will not be necessary
Schools will operate as normal
Booster shots of vaccine will be available

Professor Paul Hunter

“The concept of herd immunity is unachievable
because we know the infection will spread in unvaccinated populations
and the latest data is suggesting that two doses is probably only 50 percent protective.
Time to change the way the data is collected and recorded as the virus becomes endemic
We need to start moving away from just reporting infections,
or just reporting positive cases admitted to hospital,
to actually start reporting the number of people who are ill because of Covid
Otherwise we are going to be frightening ourselves with very high numbers that actually don’t translate into disease burden”

Andrew Pollard
Chair of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation
“I think as we look at the adult population going forward,
if we continue to chase community testing and are worried about those results,
we’re going to end up in a situation where we’re constantly boosting
to try and deal with something which is not manageable
It needs to be moving to clinically driven testing
If someone is unwell they should be tested,”

This is the official plan in the UK now, or a proposal?

It is not yet official policy. But the people giving the statements are part of the governments chief medical team, and one of them is a Cabinet Minister.

So, they are the heart of the government, and not fringe associates.

It would be like Fauci saying it.

This is where every country will eventually end up. I imagine by spring the CDC will eventually admit this too.

Interesting. About time.

Doctors in this country have been saying we are just going to have to live with it, and eventually it will be like another cold virus.

The doc is using an example of a population with a 70-80% vaccination rate to support his argument.

We’re not quite there yet.

But we know the vaccine doesn’t stop the spread so the number of vaccinated individuals is irrelevant.

Call me skeptical, I mean, it would be THE sane common sense approach, but so far we can sure have doubts that this has not been a social experiment in population control, and not really about managing a public health crisis.

France at one one time was going that direction and was less restrictive than the UK and look at them now. Nothing makes sense!

  • Angela Merkel has announced that Germany will stop mass testing (and mass recording of cases) on October 11th.

No it isn’t.

It has shown to be effective at lowing transmissibility with variants prior to Delta.

& it has shown effective against preventing death across all variants.

The doc’s point in the video Trust posted is that vaccination = lowering serious disease and death to nearly zero. So it doesn’t prevent sickness, but becomes like the common cold rather than killing 4m+ people worldwide. The vaccination rate is massively important in that scenario.

Meanwhile in Quebec the vaccine passport becomes active tomorrow. It has been in NY. France has got it to super strict levels. Hopefully, the UK and Germany show the way… t his time. Sweden had done it but noboby seems to care.
