Not sure if anyone has watched the Ultimate Soldier Challenge on the History channel, but the last two episodes have featured Shannon "the cannon", who epically failed, and Tim Kennedy who represented the Green Berets to the fullest. Great show in my opinion.
Sorry if borderline WFA...
naa, youre in the right place for a friday
In what way did the Cannon fail? I didn't know he was a soldier.
they should do knife vs 2 foot stick
I could have swore Kennedy was a Ranger, not a Green Beret. BIG difference.
Tom O'BJPenn=Legend -I could have swore Kennedy was a Ranger, not a Green Beret. BIG difference.
He is an 18B, Special Operations Weapons Sergeant. I would not be surprised if he has also gone to Ranger school. All SF units have Ranger school slots AFAIK.
Sorry for my ignorance, but, wat? That made very little sense to me. Are you saying he works with all SF?
I LOVE THIS FRIGGIN SHOW!!!!!!!
I DID NOT SEE THE ONE WITH KENNEDY OR GANNON THOUGH.
VTFU
Tim Kennedy is SF but is also ranger tabbed. A lot of the guy finishing the 18x training have the ability to go to ranger school.
Don't forget along side "the Cannon" is former MMA fighter Leo Pavlushkin.
He is saying that Tim was Special Forces(read: green beret)and he also happened to go through Ranger school.
I've only seen one episode, the Rangers/RAF/Contractors one. Are Shannon and Leo the "rogue squadron" in every episode?
I think Leo was on the rouge squad twice, Shannon never showed again after his first performance.
Is that common? Berets going through Ranger school? What are the main differences in training?
There are many SOF (Special Operations Forces) in the U.S. Military
Many know the Green Berets as Special Forces because of their Tabs and that their units are called Special Forces Group. For example other units are part of what is known as Special Forces
75th Ranger Regiment
Navy Seals
Marine Special Operations Regiment
Even the Air Force and Coast Guard have Special Forces.
Many believe that the truly most elite Special Forces are 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta also know as Delta Force.
To become a Green Beret you apply and get accepted to attend SFAS (Special Forces Assessment and Selection) Upon completing this process AND being selected you then go to school (Q-Course) for your selected discipline, small arms, engineering, signal, medical. You become a trained specialist and also attend language school. This is a new Army MOS which replaces you original MOS (job) in the Army. Each Group specializes in a geographic area of the world. The main mission is for an A-Team to be able to work with the indigenous force while in country. Only a select few are selected to become Green Berets the intelligence needed is high, the strength, endurance, and intestinal fortitude is very high among them.
To become a U.S. Army Ranger you already have a basic Army MOS now have to apply and then complete RASP (Ranger Assessment and Selection Program). If you complete RASP and are accepted into the 75th Ranger Regiment (Where you are then assigned to Regiment or a Battalion) you are now a Ranger.
This does not mean you get to wear a Ranger Tab.
You do not have to be in the 75th Regiment or a "Ranger" to go to Ranger School.
Ranger School is a Combat Leadership Course, most Army Infantry Officers go to this school, some Marines go to this school, lots of other SF guys go to this school.
Graduation from Ranger School earns you a Ranger Tab - It does not make you a "Ranger" it says that you have completed Ranger School.
Hope this helps clear it up a little, but also may add to the confusion!

He's not a Ranger. He's Ranger qualified.

Great write up but only the Army Special Forces Group are special forces. While all you named are considered Special Operations, as they are under SOCOM.
Two weeks in hell is a great documentary by the military channel about the green beret selection process.
