Usman: I want to rematch Masvidal into a coffin

Kamaru Usman defeated his friend Gilbert Burns in record-setting fashion at UFC 258, and then called out BMF Jorge Masvidal. It makes sense.

Usman and Burns had been scheduled to fight at UFC 251 on July 12, but the Brazilian tested positive for COVID-19, and Masvidal stepped up on six days' notice. Usman won a unanimous decision, and did a reported 1.3 million PPV buys, pushing it into a tie with multiple events for 6th place in league history. It's the fight that will make the most dollars, and that makes sense.

“He had a built-in excuse,” said Usman. “That’s the only reason he took that fight. We tried to make that fight twice before; he said no. … He’s been saying no. The only reason he took that fight on ‘Fight Island’ is because there was a built-in excuse. He was training the whole time, but he said, ‘Oh, I only had six days’ notice so that’s why that went that way.’ Well guess what? I’ll give you a whole training camp, and this time I will stop him. I promise you.

“That’s why I was disappointed in myself that last fight, because I know I can stop him. But with all the circumstances that took place, I just went out there and dominated him from start to finish. So this time I will stop him if he wants to step up, but I guaranteed you he doesn’t want to. He’s going to be quiet.”

“I’m going to put him in a coffin this time. He don’t want that fight. He don’t want that fight. I guarantee he don’t want that fight. I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t want it. Have I lied up here yet? Have I lied to you guys yet about anything? Nothing. I said what I wanted to do, and that’s what I’m going to do. We’ll see if it materializes.”

If it materializes it will be after Masvidal and White say yes. Masvidal called for the rematch on Thursday, and after the fight

So Masvidal is in. That leaves the UFC boss.

“There’s a lot of options for him right now,” said White post-figth. “If that’s the fight he wants, and that’s the fight Masvidal wants, and I’m sure the people would like to see it, too. … I don’t know.”

UG, do you think the next fight for Usman is a Masvidal rematch? Hint: The answer is yes.

He doesn’t want Colby again. Never forget the fake nut shot. And Colby had food poisoning before that fight. A fully healthy Colby melts Marty.

I do think masvidal took the Usman fight because he had a built in excuse. I don't think masvidal with a full training camp beats Usman . Besides, Masvidal needs to beat Colby first

He wants Masvidal because their last fight was a ppv success iirc.

I just hope his next fight won't be in 18 months..

ha when most fighters make blood-curdling threats, it's interesting and fun. this guy makes one and all I remember is him squabbling with Colby, like the most obnoxious arrogant child. not that Colby gave a good account of himself. that was horrific, and fucked them both.
