Vallie-Flagg- The UFC is Protecting Conor McGregor

Isaac Vallie-Flagg recently came on my Podcast and some choice words about Conor McGregor. VendettaFighter.com picked up the story. I posted the Podcast-- He comes on at 46.04. Kennedy, Askren, Baroni and Nader are also guests.

"UFC lightweight Isaac Vallie-Flagg recently appeared on The MMA Roasted Podcast to speak about various topics. One topic that was brought up, was about UFC featherweight Conor McGregor, and the hype the Irishman’s been getting in his short UFC career. Speaking to Adam Hunter, here’s what Vallie-Flagg had to say:

“I think it’s hilarious, I don’t even think that Conor McGregor kid is that good. He’s been calling out all these really, really tough guy’s, because he knows the UFC won’t let him fight them because they’re going to protect him to get into the Irish market. I think the kid is…You know, he’s got talent, but I don’t think he’s that great. I saw his rankings recently and if baffled me, because they ranked him higher than Dennis Bermudez and Jeremy Stephens, both of whom are killing people recently and really doing well in the division and have been around a while. Conor beats two guys, and doesn’t look that great against Max Holloway and he’s ranked number twelve I think? That’s ridiculous.”

In regards to McGregor calling out Diego Sanchez: “Diego would kill Conor. If you look at Conor’s ground-game after the Max Holloway fight, it exposed him, he didn’t know what to do in the guard or anything. Diego’s a monster, I think Conor always calls him old and fat, that dude is still a monster in the gym, in fights, no matter where he is and I think he would break Conor’s will. He knows he’s safe, again, Conor McGregor calls out dudes he knows the UFC won’t let him fight right now because they’re trying to protect him to get into the Irish market. And it’s like, I could be completely wrong about that, but I’d like to see him fight one of those dudes he’s calling out and get exposed for what he is.”

And finally, how McGregor would match-up against Cub Swanson: “I think Conor would get smashed by Cub. I mean, Cub being my friend aside, the talent level and the way that Cub thinks about fighting, Conor doesn’t even hold a candle to Cub. His kicks aren’t as good, his straight-up Boxing isn’t as good as Cub’s and technically he’s not as sound as Cub, that’s just standing up. On-top of that Cub’s Wrestling and ground-game is leaps and bounds above Conor’s”

Isaac Vallie-Flagg is 14–3–1 in his MMA career, he made his UFC debut at UFC 156 and defeated seasoned veteran Yves Edwards by split decision. Vallie-Flagg is set to face Elias Silverio on January 15th, 2014 at UFC Fight Night 35. Conor McGregor is 14–2 in his MMA career, he made his UFC debut at UFC on Fuel TV 9 and defeated Marcus Brimage by TKO, he went on to defeat Max Holloway in his next trip to the Octagon. McGregor’s been sidelined since his last fight, due to a torn ACL he suffered during the bout. He underwent surgery, keeping him out of action for up to ten months.

Although many fans may agree with Vallie-Flagg, it’s important to note that the UFC’s held two events in Ireland so far. Their first event in Ireland was UFC 72 in June 2007 at The Odyssey in Belfast, which was headlined by Rich Franklin vs. Yushin Okami. And their second, and last trip to Ireland came in January 2009 at The O2, Dublin in Dublin, where Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson headlined the event. The UFC’s expected to return to Ireland in September 2014. The five-year gap in-between events could indicate the possible decline in the sports popularity, or the UFC’s just been busy exploring many other markets during that time.

Yeah in the holloway fight I think Conor pulled a hamstring or something that's why he switched up his game plan and looked for take downs Phone Post 3.0

He's calling out top fighters. He isn't looking to be protected.

Lots of jealousy over Conor. Phone Post 3.0

Listened to the interview and the guy was full of shit.

Firstly, if you've watched Connor fight you know he has a huge arsenal on the feet, comprable to Cub's. Secondly, if you watched the Holloway fight, Holloway was getting destroyed the entire fight. Even when Conor started looking for the takedowns after he TORE HIS ACL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIGHT, he went to mount multiple times, when most people thought the way Conor lose is by being subbed by Holloway off his back, as Holloway is known to have a good guard. Conor dominated him on the ground.

Dennis Bermudez had A LOT of trouble with Holloway, and most people thought Max was robbed in that fight, and Conor destroyed him. The strking wasn't close, and that fight would have been done by the 2nd round had Conor not had the ACL injury.

And I'm not sure how he's being protected when #1 he's only had two fights, so it's not like they given him a bunch of strikers that he can beat to get to title contention, and #2 he's basically called out everyone in his division's top 10.....

ACL aside, I can't understand why people continue to say they don't think McGregor looked good against Holloway. He absolutely dominated Holloway everywhere in that fight. Holloway is one of the highest output strikers in the sport and and McGregor completely shut him down. He also managed to take him down at will, something that one of the most decorated wrestlers in the Division in Bermudez struggled to do.

It's baffling that people continue to try to say that McGregor didn't look good in that fight.

This. I've had my ACL completely torn and let me tell you.... To know only continue to fight a tough fighter like Max, but to keep winning is absolutely incredible. Any fighter who doesn't understand that is retarded (I expect the stupid arm chair fans to not understand but come on, fell UFC fighters???) Phone Post 3.0

That paragraph is full of so much win.

Kepler - LOL... Yeah that huge Irish market with a population of 7 million. Conor has a huge confidence and he isn't calling people out knowing UFC will protect him. He very much believes in himself. Really a very stupid point to make. I am disappoint.

Yeah was being generous and giving them Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

True what someone said earlier about the whole "American-Irish" thing. Hear so many people in America claim to be Irish and have never been there or have any accent or anything same for American-Italians.A very odd concept IMO but still Conor did receive huge support in Boston and plenty of Irish flags filled the venue.

As an actual Irishman I can confirm the oddness of Plastic Paddys :)

Haha at least if you ever to go America the Irish accent is seen as charming and attractive, with an English accent people are always like "oh do you know harry potter! "cup of tea sir?"
One time I did say yes when someone offered me tea not knowing they were joking but god damn it! I am British we do not joke about such matters.

Haha-I'm banking on my lilting brogue opening up a lot of doors when Mrs. Collins & myself move to Canada within the next 12 months
