Versaclimber Sprinting Question

I am working on HIIT on the versaclimber and according to the versaclimber instructions on the machine I am only supposed to move my limbs at a 6 inch distance which becomes little steps. As I do the sprint portions of my routine, it feels like I am moving too little in the six inches in order to engage my fast twitch muscles to rapidly change directions in the sprint. If I move my feet apart at greater distances I can't get a great sprint out of it. Suggestions?
