Versus officially will turn into the NBC Sports Network on Jan. 2.

The name change, which has been rumored for much of the last year, is timed to coincide with NBC’s broadcast of the NHL Winter Classic and the run-up to NBC’s February telecast of Super Bowl XLVI.

“Our goal is for anyone who sees the name or logo of one of our assets to immediately connect with NBC Sports,” said NBC Sports Group Chairman Mark Lazarus. He will officially announce the name change today at the Television Critics Association tour in Beverly Hills, Calif.

W o w Phone Post

grimsgrind - There is absolutely no negative effect to be had on the fans of the sport. It just means there will be more coverage, more money to be invested into the channel and the events, and overall a better quality of business. You guys are so hipster ish when it comes to this kind of shit. Grow a fuckin pair and get over it. "OmG It'Z nOt Da KeWL VeRSUZ N e MORE!?@ I'm GOiNg 2 WaTch MonEy In ThE BanK, WWE>MMA MAN"

LOL, no one said anything like that. Overreact much?

Not sure if anything necessarily changes, Versus has been owned by NBCUniversal for a while now. Seems like they are just focused on developing new brand recognition with this new name.

Sofa King Cool - That's great.

They can do hockey games and NFL coverage while advertising UFC.

This is good for the sport. Phone Post

What is preventing them from doing that now, prior to the name change?

grimsgrind - I sometimes(pretty much always) think that 90% of the members that post on a daily basis on these forums have such a low IQ that they honestly just type whatever comes to mind, which is utter complete uneducated ignorant madness more than half the time.

p.s. This is great for the sport.

What the fuck are you talking about? Your the only one that said anything stupid or negative. Phone Post

Hahaha, the irony....

Versus name is changing and they will be getting a new logo and that's about it.

As far as Production goes, I don't think much will change. NBC already markets Versus as it is; so, because their name changes - they will market the channel more/less? Versus already supports NBC Programming and vice versa. They are simply trying to re-structure their brands. MMA will receive just as much recognition now as they will when the name changes, same goes for hockey, golf and horse racing.

I'm sure the rebrand also had a lot to do with the fact that the network will be airing a majority of the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

Well, congrats on proving that point for us with your first post. Phone Post

wow, this thread has been officially highjacked with ironic stupidity...

Back on subject here.

from the article
....The first big sports event to feature the new NBC Sports logo will be the Jan. 2 Winter Classic, featuring the New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers at Citizens Bank Park, followed by an NFL wild-card playoff game on Jan. 7.

Did the UFC have anything scheduled for Vs. after October that wouldn't be on website's general listing?

Their website already has been NBC Sports for a while, so this is pretty much business as usual.

Primarily the only change in the interim will be the name, but perception is reality to an extent, so that could mean a lot for a ratings increase. I don't know why they haven't pulled the trigger a lot sooner.
