If you're aware already, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is one of the hardest martial arts to receive the rank of Black Belt, this is highly due to the fact that BJJ has a large focus on performance of the practitioner. It is very rare that you come across a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu that can't handle themselves on the mat well.
It takes most people 9 to 15 years to reach the level of Black Belt in BJJ. Most people can't even stick to something for 12 to 15 days haha, so imagine how hard it could be to stick with something for 12 to 15 years! Add the fact that you're not just sticking with any ordinary thing. You are choosing to stick with something that is:
- Physically Challenging
- Mentally Challenging
- Emotionally Challenging
Those things I listed above scare most people.
In this video I share just some of the simple things that I did to help keep me focused, motivated, and driven to reach the goal of Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Without doing these little things, I honestly don't think I would have been as focused as I was. I always need constant reminders to stick with my journey and my goals and these things have really helped me along the way.
The great thing is that I don't just use these methods for BJJ, I use them in every day life as well.
Thank you for your support and stay the path!

I think it's good to have goals, but ranks are pretty subjective; you get a Black Belt when your teacher feels like giving you a BB.
It easier to get a black belt from some teachers and harder to get a black belt from others.
Improving how fast you can run a Marathon is something to brag about. How fast you get a belt... well, it's kinda hard to say what it really indicates.
I got my BB in 9 years. But, I certainly don't take that to mean I'm "better" than a guy who gets it in say, 12 years.
Some guys are getting BBs from (just an example) Relson Gracie or another instructors who does not give them away, while other guys are getting belts from certain other teachers, who maybe don't have quite as high standards.
I just don't think how fast you get a BB, in and of itself, indicates all that much.

Oh. I see how it is.
Just because it took me 13 years, you look down on me. Fine.
I thought we were cool, shen. I thought we were cool.

You even told me it was extra special becasue my Mom's check cleared.
SBJJA Black Belts DO count!
--In fact, they are the only ones that indicate anything, because they are the only ones OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED by the SBJJA Official Certification Board.
My post refers to the other, "non-certified" Black Belts out there.

Believe me, the ONLY reason I only look down on you because you're a lawyer. I promise. That's it. That's the only reason.
