Video camera buying advice?

I've done quite a bit of photography and would like to get into video editing but am pretty ignorant on the subject.

 

I'd like to have something I can grow into as I learn more, this would save me the trouble of buying another body down the road. 

4k/8k isn't required, it looks like 4k is pretty standard at this point.

I have a bunch of nikon f mount lenses if that should make a difference. 

I plan on doing some light shooting with my full frame DSLR just to get a feel for it, but a legit video camera is what I'd like to end up with.

dont get the kind that records on a standard size vhs casette 

they will soon be outdated

Good stuff, the Canon C300 looks awesome, especially on ebay where some listings come with accessories.
