Video: "Jiu-Jitsu" vs "Martial Arts" (1984)

 Since the 70's and 80's two countries, Japan and Brazil have both been moving towards, what we call MMA. In Brazil the Gracie familiy had been working to popularlize jiu jitsu as a real fighting art by taking on challenge matches since the 1930s.

"Jiu-Jitsu" vs "Martial Arts" was a vale tudo event that took place on November 30, 1984 at the Gilberto Cardoso Gymnasium in Maracanazinho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The event featured five vale tudo fights, four fights pitted Gracie jiu jitsu representitives against fighters representing various other martial arts. 

"Jiu-Jitsu" representatives;
Renan Pitanguy (Carlson Gracie black belt)
Ignacio Aragon (Carlson Gracie brown belt)
Fernando "Pinduka" Guimarães (Carlson Gracie black belt)
Marcelo Behring (Rickson Gracie black belt )

"Martail Arts" representatives;
Eugenio Tadeu (thai-box /luta livre)
Bruce Lucio (kung fu)
Marco Ruas (thai-box/lutal livre)
Flavio Molina (thai-boxing)

Also featured Casemiro "Rei Zulu" Nascimento Martins vs full contact champion, Sergio Batarelli
