Video: Tito Ortiz non UFC fights 1997 & 1998

^ Yeah the fought, good fight too pancrase style (open hand strikes)

Used to be able to find the fight on the net, cant find it anywhere now

pro ice,

those net fights if im not mistake were "vale tudo" events in brazil or it might have been "luta livre"

try searching OLD wanderlei fights or jose landi jones

Jeremy Screeton (second video) was a forum member back in the day.Might have to go back to the late 90s or early 2000s to find his posts. His screen name was disease.

*He made it to the finals against Tim Lajcik, but came up short.

I thought it was funny that tito was announced as a boxer/bjj fighter, and their training clips were them doing curls.

the one at Ocean View High School was vs someone they found in the parking lot and gave $50, the guy had no clue what he was getting into. Aaron Brink also fought in that one, pretty sure Paul Hererra put the show on

Didn't Tito fight Eugene Jackson in one of those shows?

yes

Pro Ice -   Yeah Tito fought as a amateur (no pay) in his first UFC because of the scholarship, not exactly sure when that changed

was confused because he said he was amateur but I thought he got paid under the table anyways.from the UFC and that porn store he worked @.at least that's how I recall reading it from his book.

Sorry I should have been more clear, if Tito did get money from sponsors, and the UFC  for fighting at UFC 13 (I didn't read the book but I'm sure he did)  like you said it was "under the table"

Getting paid on "the books" would have affected his scholarship at Cal State Bakersfield, obviously

Some day soon Tito will age out of the UFC. It happens to everyone. But he was fun to watch for quite a long time. He can still compete at the highest level of the sport in the deepest division for 10 years now.

Yeah. Not sure if a tape exists though.

Jacob Ortiz's voice sounded deeper then more than it does now. Would steroid use affect the voice as far as making it higher pitched?

I remember actually renting that West Coast NHB fighting tape from the local video store.

The event had chick fights where the chicks flashed after their fights.

Thx for the videos! West Coast NHB was held in a night club in Rancho Dominguez (pretty nice alternative name for Compton).

Awesome show, and I am privileged to have had a sponsoring role in it. All this seems like it was yesterday....and a hundred years ago. MMA has come a long way!

Tito Ortiz FTW!

I read his book and can't believe this man lived on to earn success in life. Wrestling really did save his life, and made him become a great fighter!

bryanand - The story on Tito/Mezger was that Tito fought as an amateur because he was on a wrestling scholarship at the time...I don't know if that is true or not.

He was at Cal State Bakersfield. He wrestled at 190. He was an average DI wrestler. He was a 2x undefeated, and I believe unscored upon, California JuCo Champ. Phone Post

Fun to watch. Thanks Ice

That was fun. Always amazed to see how huge Tito is in comparison to his opponent and then see the tale of the tape that has him lighter in weight. Also kind of funny to see Screeton curling 20lbs after Tito was curling 200

Haha awesome thread...I thought Tito didn't start his season at d1?? Also Chael Sonnen pinned him supposedly in under a min Phone Post
