Does anyone else have this issue?
Mid 30's, started wrestling when I was 7. Have never stopped training for more than a few months after knee surgeries. Ears still look normal. Nose still straight. My ear has swollen up ONCE after a freestyle tournament up at Brock University in Canada. I was almost excited about it. Next day... Back to normal.
I take a TON of shit for it from friends and students. I reference the 9 knee, 2 shoulder and one hand surgery as a case of "This sport fucks all of us up in different ways" but alas, I still look like a pussy.

They are just jealous you dont block punches with your face.
Just slam your ears in a door
It might be genetic. Brother is a life long wrestlers and his ears are fine (though shooting a double leg in an MMA fight without setting it up AT ALL led to that straight nose issue being taken care of pretty quick). I'm a very typical wrestler who switched to MMA in his 20's.
Very good wrestler (though that's always relative to who is in the conversation. Compared to Askren or Cejudo, I'm an awful wrestler)
Good Jiu-Jitsu
Striking is good enough to not get injured and I can get be aggressive with lower level pros, but mid-high level strikers will took me.
At a random open gym, did a 3 minute round with BANG kickboxing only. I did not land A SINGLE STRIKE. NONE. Walked with a noticeably limp for nearly two weeks after.
THE_REAL_AMERICAN -Tournaments- no. Practice- Yes. Loved freestyle. Did very little Greco because frankly, I just wasn't very good at it.
were you one of those pussies that wore head gear in freestyle ?
so was i
Man. I feel your pain. I've been grappling go and no go for 11 years and my ears are still normal. Just ruptured eardrums.
Gi*
Just berate their inferior genetics.
"But you don't have any cauliflower ears?" Haha, I get that a lot. Been doing contact sports since I was 13 years old, wrestling, boxing, MMA, and still never got any real cauliflower yet. Just some swelling, but nothing permanent.
It is nice that I'm not the only one who gets crap for this. But my nose is a lil crooked, but never smashed in like Vera vs Jones.
Training and compited on grappling for 6 years. Only stopped for around 5 months after a shoulder surgery in 2011.
As you, my ear only got swollen once. They look perfect.
I know people from my gym who started training later than me and their ears look like broccoli.
I think genetics may have something to do with it. Off the top of my head Royce, Rampage, and Anderson have no cauliflower despite being lifelong grapplers and longtime fighters. I used to train with a guy who wrestled from age five through senior year of college and his ears were pristine, they were super soft and he could roll them up, so maybe that has something to do with it? They'd just fold over instead of the cartilage snapping.
Trust me man, you're not missing much. This cauliflower is ugly as fuck and due to the way my left one healed every time I take a shower it fills with water. Annoying.
^ I've also never used any kind of headgear
21 years on the mat and perfect ears
*sighs*
Put a penis pump on them

15 years of grappling and NOTHIN! My ears are made of rubber, seriously I can roll them up and then fold them twice
