I was reccomended by a nutritionist to greatly increase my vitamin C intake when I'm preparing to cut (4000mg per day). I remember him explaining to me why, but now I can't remember. I'm continuing to do it anyway.
It works (or my cut as a whole does) and I've done it for my past few fights successfully, but I can't find anywhere online that says why Vitamin C is an integral part of it - just that you should use it. Can somebody tell me?! Just curious now, and with every cut I try to refine and make it more effective.
Thanks!
Is it something to do with protein synthesis?
4 g seems excess in any way and I doubt you can find proof why this is useful. It's a mild diuretic btw.
It's also supposed to help keep from getting sick when cutting and depleting your system of it and other nutrients.
Excessively high vit. c intake is also correlated with increased risk for atherosclerosis and heart disease.
HERTS, van you provide references please?
I've been keeping a fairly high C intake as I've understood it does no harm... Would be interested to read from where the "too high" begins.
(By fairly high I mean 500 - 1500 mg per day, anything above that I can hardly believe could have any extra benefits)
Cutting along with exercise generally leads to excess cortisol. Vitamin C works as an antioxidant and helps your body control cortisol levels.

In PCT from a prohormone cycle, Im using 3g of Vit C a day for cortisol control.
1g, 3X a day......
There are also hormonal cortisol control supplements such as IBE X-lean and others.....

Cool, thanks dude.
I think it is not that simple that an antioxidant neutralizes cortisol...
The anti-oxidant, and tissue damage repair is why I often recommend higher C & E during high stress training.
I usually recommend:
3000 MG C taken 3 x day @ 1000 mg each
1200 I.U. E taken 3 x day @ 400 I.U. each

Thanks Taku.
^ this. Mega doses of VitC can make some people poop like a pidgin.
Having a pound of spinach a day can do the same:) Luckily I personally have a very stable stomach...
Fight! UK Online,
You are welcome. Jorx...I eat a minimum of two (densely packed) cups of raw spinach per day.
