It was billed as a fight for #1 P4P but obviously that’s not how P4P works.
The updated UFC rankings are in and Volk is still #1 P4P:
It matters to Volk.
I don’t know how a guy who is supposed to be p4p can go up one weight class, lose, and stay p4p number one. If he was so damn good he should be able to beat the guy one class above him. Two or three classes above, sure, but one class up, no.
I know, I know. Most of you think he really won.
That’s the whole point of P4P. Volk fights at 145 lbs while Islam is big for 155 lbs and could never make 145 lbs. If Islam finished Volk or dominated the fight you could make a good argument that Islam is #1 P4P but it was a close fight.
Easier said than done when the guy one class above is the #2 P4P fighter in the world.
