Wada calls for Russia to be banned from athletics in doping report
The World Anti-Doping Agency has recommended that the IAAF suspend Russia from competition.
It said the London 2012 Olympics were “sabotaged” by the “widespread inaction” against Russian athletes with suspicious doping profiles by the the world athletics governing body and the Russian federation
A number of Russian athletes suspected of doping could have been prevented from competing in 2012 had it not been for “the collective and inexplicable laissez-faire policy” adopted by the IAAF and the Russian federation.
In response, the IAAF said its “president, Sebastian Coe, has taken the urgent step of seeking approval from his fellow IAAF council members to consider sanctions against the Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF). These sanctions could include provisional and full suspension and the removal of future IAAF events.” Interpol is now to coordinate a global investigation into widespread doping in track and field.
The review by Dick Pound, the former Wada president who has spent 11 months looking into claims of systemic cheating and cover-up within Russian athletics and the sport’s governing body, has also recommended that five middle-distance runners and five coaches be given lifetime doping bans.
BBC: "Wada's independent commission examined allegations of doping, cover-ups, and extortion in Russian athletics"
"Wada commission leader Dick Pound said Russia seemed to have been running a "state-supported" doping programme "
"a World Anti-Doping Agency panel accused the Russian government on Monday of complicity in widespread doping and coverups"
"said even the country's intelligence service, the FSB, was involved, spying on Moscow's anti-doping lab, including during last year's Winter Games in Sochi."
"The WADA report also said Moscow testing laboratory director Grigory Rodchenkov ordered 1,417 doping control samples destroyed to deny evidence for the inquiry."
"The panel also raised suspicions that Russia may have has been using an obscure laboratory on the outskirts of Moscow to help cover up widespread doping, possibly by pre-screening athletes' doping samples and ditching those that test positive."
"Pound said Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko must also have known.
"It was not possible for him to be unaware of it," Pound said.
"The commission report said [Sports Minister] Mutko issued direct orders to "manipulate particular samples.""
TheBigRedOne - Odd that they are going after Russia, when China won the most medals.
Sounds like political meddling by the US.
It's almost like it's not about medal counts, but about the evidence of state-sponsored doping and coverups in Russia, and lack of evidence of same for China.
Good to see you're branching out on topics with your shitty trolling.
TheBigRedOne - we have to be careful throwing around the word "Russian", because WADA is only concerned about Russia and it's sponsored native athletes.
Americans, who basically racist/xenophobic, will automatically connect any Russian athlete, whether or not they live in the US or fight for an American sports organization.
mada - I was thinking about this the other day. It must be a nightmare for the UFC to go to Dagestan and places like it and try to test those fighters. Khabib hasn't fought or even been able to train without injury since they started testing more. He may be the cleanest guy in the sport, but I am always suspicious of anyone from Russia or the former Soviet Union. His buddy popped for EPO when most people didn't even realize what EPO was, or that fighters might use it.

Branching out? The OP has nothing directly to do with MMA, it is a general article on doping.
If you don't like what people post, then stop replying like a bitch on the rag all of the time.
WADA tests MMA athletes; this article proves that they're a serious organization that follows through on events even if they happened years ago. IMO it’s a testament that MMA is growing in the right direction and therefore relevant to this forum.

Pretty sure no one is that stupid.
Did you really make that reply to theBRO? Do you know who he is?
First they go after FIFA for appointing the world cup to Russia. Then they try to forbid the Russian basketball team from joining the FIBA European Basketball League. Now this.
Whoever thinks that politics have nothing to do with this charade might as well take a week off work and read some history or do some research on the internet. That will put everything into perspective again.
Just a little story here about what happened in my country:
I live in Greece. In 2007 then Greek president Konstantinos Karamanlis signed a deal with Putin for a gas pipe passing through Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria and eventually reaching Europe. In the following two years:
- We had the worst case of arsons with fires breaking out all over Greece - A cop shot an underage anarchist and we had riots all over Greece - There was a scamdal involving telecommunications giant Vodafone who was spying on Greek politicians. A high-ranked executive of the company allegedly commited suicide, with his family even to this day denying that this could be true. - There were threats against the prime minister's life and he avoided public appearances for a long time.
2 years later and after all this pressure, Karamanlis resigned, Bulgaria, pressured by the US, jumped out of the deal and the new prime minister Papandreou, a US-puppet, also jumped out of the deal and signed the referendum that has placed my country so deep in debt that there's no possible way we could ever repay it.
This is world politics. It's like a mafia game. I'm guessing whoever thinks otherwise is blissfully ignorant.
