Fujii Megumi surely had a more dominant run at the top of women's MMA than Ronda, no?
22-0 with 18 subs before her 1st loss
Like Kid Y, both of their primes were before the UFC had their divisions, shame.
No dis to Ronda, people are coming outta the woodwork to hate foam on her but her run was also impressive, it's just a shame Fujii did hers under the radar

Ronda fought the best girls in the division. Not her fault they are so far behind in skill.
lol
I thought that Megumi was robbed in both of her losses.
5 o clock shadow - I thought that Megumi was robbed in both of her losses. She was definitely robbed in 2 of 3 decisions

Go ask random people at your local super market if they know who Fuji is.
Come on now people don't give a damn about anything other than UFC outside of this place.

You should have done "Attn: Ryan G, Mike F, or Daimon Hellstorm"

If the division was so weak for Ronda? it must have been almost nonexistent for Fugi.
FRAT WARNING
Megumi's Bellator title loss pissed me off in a few ways. The first was that I believed she won the bout, but that's just my opinion. The biggest thing to me was that Zoila never fought to defend the belt and essentially took the steam out of the division. Just imagine if she had lost the decision to Aguillar and the true top 115 pound women (at the time) had fought. Zoila was cutting weight to fight smaller girls in a tournament that already made the General public uncomfortable. If technique had trumped brawn, it would have been the most important show of relevancy to an early bellator product.
At that time bellator only had Eddie Alvarez to boast as there version of the world's best fighter. With BJ losing to Frankie, both Giblert (I'll shop his head onto Kimmy Gitimer from full house in the near future) and Eddie had the first chance to say they were the top fighter at their weight. This was before the WEC merger happened and showed that the UFC 155 was not in fact light year ahead of the competition.
Megumi vs Aguillar would give Bellator a solid lock on the number one fighter of a weight division the UFC did not have at that time. Although most wouldn't even notice, it meant something to many of us that in the fallout of Pride, more than one option for world class fights was available. I was legit salivating at the idea of a strikeforce vs bellator card.
In conclusion, Gurgel's loss at 125 te Jessica Eye took away just as much in that she couldn't beat a girl her own size, but was given the nod over the consensus #1 and #2 in fights where she cut a considerable amount of mass. The tournament would have had a young Magana if she hadn't hurt her knee, and her replacement was a very green Carla Esparza. Super underrated and that sucks. Final note, Jessica Eye should change her nickname from "Evil" to "Brown". With such a developed gludius maximus (stay classy my friends), more photo evidence could be established for the GOAT of all Joe Rogan getting caught looking backsides. Jessica " Brown" Eye for the win. Sorry to be all over the board, but I think it's all relevant and shows some of what bellator brought to the table under Rebney, and how much the tournaments also fucked them.
I don't think you can rank the runs in the same format since Ronda was defeated by a woman of her own weight class after facing all of the top contenders back to back. Fujii had to fight in bodog, jewels, shooto, and other promotions to try to show supremacy. She was essentially defeated by a less legitimate Cyborg in that Zoila had a less impressive resume than Cris currently holds. The Cyborg/Zoila comparison is based purely on the weight cut. I love watching the women's fights in that it reminds me of the Frank Shamrock era where the fighters understood the whole game, but there was still more of a style vs style feel. I hope they stay relevant, although I do think putting men's and women's fights on the same card makes the difference in overall skill glaring. NO HATE MEANT TO ANY OF THE GREAT PIONEERS OF YOUNG DIVISIONS.
IMO, Fuji was undefeated until that last fight and even that ended in a shady manner with the eye poke. Bellator judges screwed Fuji, she won 4 of 5 rounds in her first "loss" ... she is the original WMMA legend and I wish the UFC would cover her story when they go to japan.
Yeah, she def deserves more recognition.
Wasa-B, what do you think of Megumi's opposition. I honestly didn't know about her until the tournament was announced. When I saw she trained with Barnett I watched what I could. I know it's not her fault if the level of competition wasn't as high, but do you think she was as dominant with comparably skilled opponents? I think Ronda's evolution was super fun to watch, and personally feel her run was also superrior. I never expected she would be a dominant striker in the fights leading up to the Holly fight.
5 o clock shadow - I thought that Megumi was robbed in both of her losses.Agree
