Ways to Increase Credit Limit?

I pay my bill every month, my credit limit has been stuck at $2,000 for like 5 years lol, my credit score is very good, why won't they increase the limit to $5,000? Phone Post 3.0

I just asked on the phone after a few years and my credit union did.

Same thing with USAA a few years later. 30,000 limit- just in case.

But pay off each month. :) Phone Post 3.0

Some card companies are just like that. My guess is your best bet would be to "overestimate" your annual income.

I had an AMEX through costco for many years and they wouldn't raise my limit over 2k with 800+ credit score and a few years of excellent history with them. I canceled the card when they tried to pull some shady shit raising my APR. They wrote me afterwards asking me to come back and they would put my APR back to where it was.

I blew it off for a year and got married in the meantime. Just last week wanted to get a new TV from costco and they were offering a $55 rebate for signing up. I signed up and added my wifes income to my total annual income and they approved me for 11k lol.

My question is besides a medical emergency what do you really need more then a 3k limit for? Those credit card companies want you to have a lower limit because it means you are more likely to use it and this more likely to have a chance of not paying it off. Phone Post 3.0

They will give you enough rope to hang yourself with. Stay away from credit cards unless you're extremely disciplined and have a really good rewards program where you can pay the balance off every month and avoid interest charges.

Bingo. I make 90% of all my transactions on my rewards cards and pay them off.

Let's say you have a car crash and need a new set of dependable wheels fast.

A high limit will let you get a car, which you then pay off immediately with the E-fund you have lying around for just such an occasion, but which takes just a bit longer to mobilize than a credit card with a healthy limit.

Flexibility, responsibly used.

Uh, many people spend far more than $3k/month, and using a credit card remains the safest and smartest way to spend money(assuming you are not a moron and pay off your balance in full every month).

A lot of credit card regulators have rules now where the credit card company can't automatically increase the cardholders limit. You'll have to call up and ask. Phone Post 3.0

Call them and ask.

This is your answer.

Unless you have a Capital One card. They won't raise it. Cut up that card and get a different one.

Another option is to have multiple cards.

I have three that I use depending on what I'm buying. My primary Rewards card is from my credit union. Then I also have a Nordstrom signature and Costco Amex.

There are probably better ones out there but I have had these ones for a long time (the Amex I just got back) and work for me.
