I'd like to congratulate Mr. Matt Stansell for taking and passing the
examination for Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu! Matt endured over two
and a half hours of testing and passed the examination with flying
colors. Way to go Matt.
Matt is the first person I have promoted to black belt in Brazilian Jiu
Jitsu. He has been training with me in Jiu Jitsu since 1997. He came to
me as a blue belt under Professor Royce Gracie.
I am honored to have Matt Stansell on my team. He is not only an asset
as a competitor, but he is a phenomenal instructor and a great friend!.
I am very proud of his grappling and mma accomplishments and am
very happy to promote him to black belt. He is very deserving of the
rank!
At the end of Matt's test, and after I had promoted him to black belt, I
asked him, "What's next for you?" His spontaneous reply was, "I want to
start over. I want to review all of the basic techniques again." Of the
thousands of people I have taught, of the scores of purple, brown and
black belts I have taught, Matt is only one of two people who have ever
made that statement. I was very impressed by his reply!
Help me in congratulating Mr. Matt Stansell on earning the prestigious
rank of Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!

Many congrats!!! That is a huge accomplishment that I hope to someday make as well.
Congrats, Matt.
Roy, I've been very impressed by your instructionals, very meticulous and detail-oriented and above all, well organized and comprehensive! Good work!
JKDConcepts125,
Obviously, you haven't seen his MMA fights nor watched his student
and friend, Jason Lambert, fight in the ring.
Yes, he can punch. He can also kick like a mule.
Obviously I have not seen his fights or I would not of asked such a question.
Make sure he stays away from Oveerem and Lindland!
YEAH GO MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTT!
TTT for Matt and his ninja skills!
Sweet, I want a black belt too. lol
Congratulations Matt!!!
Matt is an amazing and inspiring martial artist. His dedication to the
art of BJJ has finally culminated in the goal he set to achieve many
years ago.
Roy Dean
p.s. JKDConcepts125: Very lame comment, one that reveals your true
colors and character (or lack thereof). I find it highly unlikely that you
will ever achieve skill level Matt possesses. Let us know when you
achieve your BJJ Black Belt, or knock one out (as Matt has done), so we
can be sure to post snide comments detracting from your
accomplishment. I look forward to that day.
People that knock others accomplishments should try training
sometime (that's you fcfkruse). Watching Pride and hanging out at an
MMA forum doesn't count as training, BTW.
Sad that a 10 year commitment merits this kind of response from a few
wannabee martial artists. Perhaps if they ever accomplish anything in
this life, they'll realize what a total and complete jackass they come off
as when they disparaged the efforts of others.
Very Truly Yours,
Roy Dean
Congrats,
VERY big accomplishment, and must be a great honor to be Roy's first Black Belt.
