Mark Munoz, a former NCAA national wrestling champion at Oklahoma State, has agreed to a six-fight contract with World Extreme Cagefighting. The Vallejo Times-Herald reported the deal, which Munoz called a “high six-figure contract,” on Friday.
According to the report, the WEC has targeted a Sunday, June 1 debut for Munoz at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, Calif. The unbeaten Munoz (3-0) last fought in October, when he secured a unanimous decision victory over Tony Rubalcava at Palace Fighting Championship 4 “Project Complete.”
*Never heard of him before. Can anyone tell me a little more about him? Thanks!
I remember when the PFC brought him in.Keep in mind that the PFC & the old WEC were a tightly knit group and probably still are.I`m not surprised that the WEC picked him up.
One thing is that the 6 figures can be a break down of the total pay for the 6 fights.
For example it can be:
10-10 per fight which totals 20k per fight given he wins every fight.
that totals 120k for 6 fights. That is a possible 6 figure contract. I doubt that Munoz as god of a wrestler he is will get paid more than Randy or any other champ in the UFC.
Mark won the NCAA's at 197 lbs at Oklahoma State. He has been a coach, coaches wrestling at UC davis. His wrestling is as good as anyone in MMA. He is an Olympic level wrestler.
We were honored to have him compete in the PFC and knew that this day would come for him with time and some seasoning. We are very proud to be associated with Mark not just because he's a tremendously talented fighter..but because he's a helluva' good guy.
He's a great sportsman, someone the sport can build on and he's very well rounded..he's not just a wrestler.
