Weidman: I want, deserve immediate rematch

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman appeared recently on Ariel Helwani's The MMA Hour, and declared that he wants an immediate rematch with Luke Rockhold, who beat him at UFC 194, brutally.

"That's the fight I want," said Weidman, as transcribed by Shaun Al-Shatti for MMAFighting.com. "I'd say that's the fight I deserve, and that would be the biggest fight of my life.

"That trumps my Anderson Silva fights. That trumps my Lyoto Machida, my Vitor fights. It trumps everything. That's the biggest fight of my life. I'm going to be a completely different animal, motivated more than ever, and I'm going to go repay him for what he did to me. No personal vendetta. No emotion. Just competitively, just go out there and just completely demolish him."

"The next day (after the loss) Lorenzo (Fertitta) is such a great guy -- he came to my room and we hung out, just spent time, watched football and talked life. I let him know right there and then that... that wasn't me in that cage that night. Anybody who knows me, anybody who's seen me train or has trained with me, anybody who has pretty much seen any of my fights, they know that something was off. And they're right. No excuses, he was the better man that night. But I'm going to be a completely different person when I step in there with him next time.

"That's all I'm focused on. Right now, I'm training already. I'm just so hungry and determined and the only face I see is Luke Rockhold's."

While Rockhold was expected to fight the winner of Jacare vs. Yoel Romero, which took place on the same main card, Romero win was underwhelming. And while Rockhold says his dream fight is a rematch with Vitor Belfort, he acknowledged that Belfort needs a win first. So Rockhold vs. Weidman II seems increasingly like it is the fight.

he better not show up "deflated" again Phone Post 3.0

I am so tired of these immediate rematches that potentially render a serious competitor in a weird spot with no ability to challenge the current champ again. He needs to fight a #1 contender fight.

I wish they would just have a hard rule, "5 title defenses before an immediate rematch is granted."

"throw the spinning kick!"

Aldo is about the only one that deserves an immediate rematch. Condit/lawler was close as fuck so i think carlos deserves a rematch.

Ronda, Cain, Weidman all need to go win at least one other fight.

3 defences. He's 'earned' it more than Velasquez i suppose. Phone Post 3.0

I am fine with Aldo getting an immediate rematch, although Frankie has looked fantastic since his loss to Aldo. Frankie is the only reason I wouldn't want Aldo to get an immediate rematch and it's because he's deserving of another shot, however, so is Aldo. If any current champs earned it, it's him.

Cain absolutely didn't deserve it. He got beaten soundly for two rounds and finished in the third. He should have to fight someone in the Overeem/Rothwell/Stipe trio while someone else in that trip gets the title shot.

Agreed, Aldo and Ronda deserve rematches way more based on their dominant runs as champs. Weidman was a good champion but he did not dominate like Aldo, Anderson and Ronda did.

I thought he said he wanted to take time to improve. ... Phone Post 3.0

I'm still very curious to know what really happened in that fight. Wide Man looked nothing like the fighter who knocked out Anderson silva and quickly demolished Belfort and beat Machida. I didn't think Rockhold was going to be much of a threat to him tbh Phone Post 3.0

I don't know whether I agree with Weidman deserving a rematch or not.

But see, this is a consequence of the UFC gifting out instant rematches almost every time a champion loses, because reasons.

A strange precedent has been set with instant rematches, and now everybody is going to say they deserve one.

You have no clue what you're watching. Weidman didn't look as good because he was fighting a better fighter. Rockhold beating Weidman was one of the most predictable outcomes in a title fight in the past year. Phone Post 3.0

Sorry Chris but you don't, just like most of the others didn't. Stop holding the divisions up Zuffa ffs its becoming unbearable.

Aldo got thrashed, imo he doesn't deserve a rematch. Let him win 1 or 2 and then get his rematch or title shot. Phone Post 3.0

Carlos is the only one that actually deserves a rematch

I don't disagree with you, but a 13 second KO says less to me than a 3 round beatdown, like Cain/Werdum. That, plus the fact that he was a very long-reigning champion, would make it more than okay for me if he got an immediate rematch.

I'd also be okay with absolutely no immediate rematches for any champions ever, so...

Does he really want to take that beating... If so, I got Rockhold by devastating fashion... Again.. Phone Post 3.0

No for Rousey...
No for Weidman...
No for Cain...
No for Condit (and Im a fan)

YES for Aldo...

rematches suck and clog the system unless something crazy happpens.

not sounding like himself here either
