I visited the New Breed Academy over in Santa Fe Springs, CA, because that was where I trained last, and because I really liked the people there.
John Ouano was running the open mat on this Saturday afternoon, and he recognized me right away even after all this time. It was really nice to see him again.
I rolled around a little bit, and wow... my body was not moving like I wanted it to, and I had no cardio. White belts were giving me trouble and even subbing me. ...and to think I was getting close to purple when I stopped training. That was.... tottemo kuyashii.
With that said, I'm definitely going to go back again really soon to scrape off all the rust that has accumulated and get my cardio back. Something about white belts giving me trouble got me motivated again.

I really missed jiu-jitsu. :')
PS: I got myself a bowl of acai to commemorate this occasion. ;) How sweet it is. :P
Nice fren. I have no doubt that once the cardio comes back, all the rust will start falling off and you will start destroying dudes.
Keep us updated.
Ganbatte!
I took 8 years off and am still waiting for the cardio to come back.
keizoku no chikara. ganbate cp!
Describe this cardio you speak of. . .
Seriously, congrats on getting back on the mats
Cardio is like magic that keeps your body moving long after any mere mortal would have crumpled into the fetal position due to exhaustion. I've had decent cardio at a few points in my life but now is not one of them.
Thanks for the support, guys. I shouldn't have waited so long to go back, but I wasn't looking forward to the ass kicking that was coming my way. ;)
It's all good, though.
why you gotta attack my fetal guard?
LOL!!
Friggen Cardio!
Hey, I ended up using the fetal guard, too. It wasn't pretty.
dont worry about jj, jus keep putting out epic post!!
I was just at that academy visiting John about 2 weeks ago. Very cool atmosphere. I liked how the students went up and greeted a guy that stopped by to check out the place.
Rodrigo teaches there and he was the guy that ran through all the best of our lightweight black belts. That guy is unreal.
Damn dude.. you guys come to LA or live in LA but don't get a hold of me. I'm crying on the inside.
kteam - dont worry about jj, jus keep putting out epic post!!
It's 99% automated now. Nothing to worry about. (I'm much better at programming than I am at BJJ.)

I don't know Rodrigo, because he probably arrived after I had stopped training. Most of my training was with John Ramirez whom I have a lot of respect for. Johnny was one of the best teachers I've trained with.

I'm pretty sure I've trained w/ you when you visited New Breed on Saturdays back when you were a blue belt. I was the lightweight Japanese guy who was also blue at the time.
rodrigo's style is killer.
I don't care for pressure style's. I find them unexciting. I want more Tokoros and Ruminas in the world.
rumina's has sick pressure.
or at least it used to.

Jon? You're like 140lbs or something?
Yeah, this is (yet another) John, and I'm more like 130.

Cool. Thanks for helping me with that code earlier this summer, too!
You were training in Riverside before that, right? How'd you end up on the Hawaii ground? lol
