That place, unity is a lions den. Murilo Santana is a phenomenal coach, the guys there literally sleep in the gym. Training is gruelling, 2 hours, first hour drilling and second rolling hard and callisthenics. Repeated 2X daily. The Miyao's literally don't leave the gym, its amazing to see the commitment they have to their art. Pretty scary actually.
Heading there in June for a week. Very much looking forward to it!
I imagine that the cost of living in NYC has something to do with that!.... but seriously..yeah you're right their commitment is phenomenal. Looking forward to visiting there at some point.
Is it hot as fuck. I imagine it being hot as shit
Off topic, but wouldn't sleeping there violate some laws?
I know that a lot of industrial sites /warehouses/workshops often double as places of residence for the owners because it cuts down on housing costs, but local councils that r extremely rigid crack down on these and issue fines.
Not that I care, if I could transform a warehouse into a place to live, it would house my cars and be great storage for my stock that I run my businesses with

Yes, it's not legal to sleep in those units becuase they are zoned for business use. They typically don't require the rules and regulations that are required for residential units. But people sleep in their businesses all the time. It's only if you're caught that the landlord gets mad.
The real question is "If they stay there all day, where do they take showers??"
That's gross if they don't shower between sessions
I get worried about the Miyaos.
I would imagine any DVD they release would be very much a list of 700 techniques with hardly any underlying concepts.
They probably wouldn't be very good teachers, and the language barrier seems like one they're comfortable maintaining.
So where's their income going to come from in 10 years?
IBJJF doesn't pay, Eddie acts like show money, or even money when you win a match by submission, is blasphemy, and Ralek would charge them for the cost of cleaning the mats at the end of the event.

Say hi to Flavio next time! Big brazilian guy :)

Their DVD is pretty much your description but they do chain together.
Berimbolo and Beyond
When I say sleep in the gym I mean between sessions. I'm not sure what they do at night.

I'm sure they drill. And then drill a bit more.
Living in the gym is almost certain illegal but nobody's gonna drop a dime on them so it's probably not much of an issue.
I remember when Lucas Lepri moved to NYC and started teaching at Alliance NYC, he lived in the gym for a long time before his wife moved to be with him and they got an apartment.
Murlio is amazing. I rolled with him, it was the most fun ive had rolling with a "big name" guy, he actually let me work.
Also was that Devonte kid there? Hes a beast

Unity has a locker room and shower within the gym? I've seen videos and that place looks to be no bigger than 1200 sqft. Where did they fit that in?
The Maestro -The locker room fits maybe 3-4 people and its a one person shower. I was sharing the locker room with Yago and Leandro Lo lol....no romodustyaguas -checkuroil - Is it hot as fuck. I imagine it being hot as shitCan confirm. Hot as fuck. Locker room/shower combo is the worst

Lol @ someone saying "isn't that illegal" they're really living on the edge sleeping in a place zoned for business.
I wonder what the Miyaos do if they get a skin infection or something. Do they still hang around the gym?
My student moved to NYC and trains there and loves it.
