i would think this has to be a realistic idea, only b/c if it isn't, dana essentially gave him some free press...
so with that said, any info or news on an actual signing of vitor???
could be big for the 185 class... with belcher/ akiyama going down soon, okami in the wings and wanderlei joining the class, it has some contenders on the rise... throw vitor in the mix and that's an exciting class.
how about vitor vs. dennis kang and wand vs. cote soon... and the winners fight for a #1 contender spot?
Theyll get Vitor so they can throw him in with wand at 185 his first fight at MW and a long awaited rematch.
Heartbroken Lee - Exactly 50-50. The odds on everything are 50-50.
not true. you are the dumb.
He wouldn't even beat most TUF-level 185'ers, let alone guys like Wanderlei, Okami, Franklin, etc.
i agree 1000000% Icarus...
some of these TUF kids are incredibly stupid.
WaltJ - He wouldn't even beat most TUF-level 185'ers, let alone guys like Wanderlei, Okami, Franklin, etc.
That's the dumbest thing I've read today.
Vitor cannot string together a good run of victories,I gave up on him years ago.
lol @ you people, seriously.
His win over Lindland was no doubt impressive, I take nothing away from him there, but that was an anomaly in his career.
The bulk of his dominant victories were against weaker opposition, and his main victories, like the flukey TKO cut stoppage over Randy and the stoppage of a young Wanderlei were ions ago.
And now they want him to challenge Anderson Silva? He'd get carried out of the building in a box if that fight were to happen.
I have nothing against Vitor, but this is akin to the argument that Mark Kerr would come back and own the UFC HW division if that evil Dana would just give him a chance.
Not gonna happen on either account. Vitor, much like Kerr, for the majority of his career was highly overrated, and in post-2000 MMA has no chance at being a top fighter, other than having his namesake.
"some of these TUF kids are incredibly stupid."
and lol @ that, considering our respective membership dates
And once again, I feel the need to restate that I have nothing against Vitor.
If I had my way, guys like Vitor, Igor V., Sakuraba, etc. would ALL come back and dominate the UFC, but the reality of it is, that just isn't going to happen.
Vitor
Kerr
Kimbo
Tank
Ken Shamrock

What....are you serious? Oh yeah Franklin isn't even a MW these days so you must have no idea wtf you are talking about. Vitor is an inconsistent fighter but to say he wouldn't even beat most TUF guys is just absurd!
Why do so many people get hopped up on member dates? I have been following mma since 2001 but just decided to join up in 2008.
WaltJ - He wouldn't even beat most TUF-level 185'ers, let alone guys like Wanderlei, Okami, Franklin, etc.
Stupidest statement I read today as well...
Re: the membership dates, it's retarded to refer to someone as a "TUF Kid", considering they were members for over 2 years before the show even debuted.
Re: Vitor's "prime"....he never had one, because he was OVERRATED. His "prime" was when he first debuted in MMA and laid waste to such formidable opposition as top S.A.F.T.A. disciple John Hess and grizzled UFC warrior Scott Ferrozzo.
For the poster who referenced the fact that Vitor is two years younger than Silva, that means nothing. He's not even in the same stratosphere as Silva when it comes to MMA. Not even close.
As for me being retarded and not knowing what I'm talking about, I guess you guys are right. Once he comes back to the UFC, Anderson, Wanderlei, and the rest of that division had better look out, because THIS TIME IT'S FINALLY GOING TO HAPPEN!
WE'RE GONNA GET THE OLD VITOR!
THE REAL VITOR!
THE VITOR OF 1999! OR WAS THAT THE VITOR OF 1997? OR THE ONE FROM 2003? OR THE ONE THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO RETURN AND BE THE OLD VITOR FROM 2007?
Hmmmm....
Just curious, one last thing....
Where do you guys rank Mark Kerr all time?
Like if you had to compare "primes" and such....would you say he's one of the best ever?
Your answers to that question will be VERY telling.
He was great when he started because it was still new to everyone and his wrestling abilities carried him. Then he had that lost to fujita and was never the same..

Hahahah! i hear that! the amount of times Randleman, Shammers and Baroni have broken my heart is ridiculous!
asschinboy - He was great when he started because it was still new to everyone and his wrestling abilities carried him. Then he had that lost to fujita and was never the same..
Do you think this could also be applied to Vitor in some respects, as well?
Vitor came in with great athleticism (no need for a steroid debate), pretty heavy hands, and a "black belt" in BJJ. He certainly had the natural tools needed to beat a lot of the fighters of that day, but also could not get over a lot of the mental hurdles he faced and just wasn't technically good enough to hang with the better fighters of his time (Randy, Chuck, Henderson, Overeem, Tito- though that fight was close).
I hear he is training with Xtreme Couture, which is a good idea and working on some stuff with Randy personally, so that means he can only get better.
That being said, he's got a long way to go. A LONG way, before he'll even be able to last 2 rounds with one of the Silvas. Sure, he KO'd Lindland, which is no small feat, but Matt isn't the kind of lethal striker that will take your head off.
I just don't see it happening. Anderson would beat him via dominance in every facet of the game, and there is NO WAY Wand would lose a rematch.
