He lasted longer than BJ Penn. Hardy got mauled, but he has tons of heart and was very entertaining.

He threw 5 punches, couldn't defend a single takedown, got his guard passed left and right, almost got submitted like 3 times and he was very entertaining?

His Jiu-Jitsu was just fine in this fight, look at BJ II and Serra II. Did they look like anything above blue belts against GSP off their back? No, and they are both high level black belts.

I agree with that, how many purple or brown belts could stop GSP passing and mauling them if those two couldn't? To label someone a blue belt because GSP dominates them is pretty silly. It's equally stupid to equate his groundgame to Penn because he managed to last longer.
Brasco may have higher standards because he is a badass wrestler.

Guys...just asking man. Hardy looked good and showed great heart...he was replacing well in the first round and stayed calm thru out fight.

I wouldn't have been able to stop GSP from doing what he wants...Hardy having a brown is perfectly fine in my eyes.
GSP also took different strategies against Hardy than he did against BJ ans serra, so I don't think it's fair to compare the fights. Against BJ and Serra he passed, but solidified a cross position or turtled one on one on the back, and destroyed them with punches. Agisnt Hardy, he took mount, took the back, went for subs over and over...etc.
GSP didn;t attempt to do those things against BJ and serra because it would've turned into too much of a grappling contest. GSP works his advantages beautifully.
Impossible to even guesstimate his bjj rank by basing it on an MMA fight with Georges. but this is a fun game so im gonna try. Im assuming he doesnt train in the gi, so given that some are saying hes a tenth planet purple and the thread is asking for BJJ rank, not nogi rank, id ballpark him at maybe 3-4 stripe blue in BJJ.

Do people here think the average blue or purple out of an average strip mall bjj school could replace half and full like that on GSP, sustain so little damage over 5 rounds, and withstand that armbar and kimura?
