not exactly related but I read a kids book while sitting at the pediatricians office about Louis Braille

the guy was real young when he came up with his method of reading and writing for the blind
the headmaster of the school for the blind blew off his idea as junk and wouldnt let the blind kids use it
the kids used the method between themselves until the old bastards that ran the place finally gave in

how frustrating must that have been
and they only had like two or three books in the whole school because the old crappy way was so expensive
