What make Alliance so good?

Alliance has been one of the major jiu jitsu power s for a while now, winning most of the big competitions each year. My question is what makes them so good? Do they train different than other teams? Is it their ability to find and develop new competitors? Or is it something else?

Also, with their HQ in Atlanta, do they have any top guys that were born and trained in the US or are all their world and adcc champs coming from Brazil?

As I do not train with Alliance, I cannot say for sure, but I think what they are doing is probably just what is standard in professional sports.

For their competitive athletes, they probably have people providing
-professional strength and conditioning
-systems for regular drilling
-team training where the athletes get to train with other high level athletes and get direct coaching and feedback from each other and the head coaches
-organized curriculum for learning new material and refining old material
-probably some kind of nutritionist for the higher level guys and gals
-training camps where the major athletes from the different branches of Alliance can get together and train, exchange ideas and formulate team and individual strategies for tournaments.
-They probably build talent from their kids programs and attract talent from other schools with a superior competition team, which leads to an even more superior competition team.
-They probably have a system for providing and accumulating sponsorships to help athletes pay for competitions and travel costs.
-They probably have means of marketing their athletes to help them gain exposure which leads to better sponsorship and seminar opportunities.
-I would guess that Jacare and Fabio Gurgel and perhaps others direct and manage all of these different elements into one organized system. Overseeing and directing the whole project.

What they probably do not do is leave anything to chance. I would guess that everything that team Alliance does, from teaching to training (non athletes and athletes alike) is well planned and systematically approached.

They are one of the largest teams and the only larger team is GB who seem to care more about the patches on your gi rather than competition result.

I've trained with a Carlson Gracie team, a Nova Uniao tean and an Alliance team, and the Alliance guys just train harder than the others.

wtf does that even mean. "train harder". cos every time i train "harder" i just break down and get hurt. maybe cos im on the wrong side of 30 and bjj isnt my career.
but "train harder" isnt something i have done in years. and when i do, its a once a fortnight thing and im pretty much wrecked for the week.

Train harder meaning longer and with more intensity. At CC and NU we train 1 hour a piece and less cardio than Alliance where trainings are 2 hours a piece. (Though these are individual academies and probably don't represent every club.)

Their primary focus, just like Lloyd's team these days is to produce belt winners at all levels.. especially the black belt.

They train accordingly, and have teams and training sessions dedicated to that goal, so it shows.

I wouldn't say they have some secret jiujitsu that nobody else knows.. those days are long gone.. Its all about proper training these days.

They'll fade eventually, they did before, and another team will be at the top again.. a few years later, they could be back...etc.etc.

Everyone has their time at the top. Atos is coming up really fast. There was a time when people thought the Carlson Gracie team was invincible.

No one stays on top forever. Phone Post

Spot on. For a while it was all Barra, now Alliance are top dogs. Atos are close behind... will be interesting to see if Alliance are able to replace their stars when they finally retire. Sergio Moraes is already in place for Marcelo's division, but what about Cobrinha and Malfacine? If they can do that, then they have the potential to stay on top for a while.

I have this feeling that Atos is going to split sometime soon.

I've trained with 4 schools in my time and consistently, the hardest training was under Master Jacare. He'll make a man out of a mouse!

I think if Brasa wouldn't have split into Atos and Checkmat then they would be the #1 right now. Phone Post

I have trained with Alliance for quite a while now. In my humble purple belt experience as to the reasons why Alliance is a factory:

1) Master Jacare. His love for BJJ, his passion for winning, and his love and caring of his students are the driving force of Alliance USA Atlanta HQ.

2) So many great guys to train with. People move from all over to train at Alliance HQ.

3) Team! Team! Team! Throw out the cancer and everything is good!

4) Hard training all the time.

5) People stay long after class and roll, drill techs.

6) Very few egos.

There are no academy S&C coaches or nutritionists. But what Alliance HQ does have is a wide breath of people that are S&C coaches, doctors, nutritionists, etc.. And they all share with each other for free. That free flow of information and exchange of said information is invaluable to ones growth.
