what makes wrestlers so bad ass?

what makes wrestlers so badass and mentally tough?

personally, i think its the fact that the season runs through the holidays. seriously, you're supposed to make weight with all this food around?????

happy holidays

Terrible memories!!!

Sleeping in a trashbag, spitting, peeing, running laps around my house at night while everyone else sat at the dinner table...

lol the hours of running/jogging in saunna suits, winter coats and sweaters all at once, to lose that last 5 pounds well your coach grunts and moans at you. Dealing with kids in your school starting shite cause you wear an ugly singlet in tournaments, Drills where your sprinting up a 15 30 foot hill with the teams fat kid on your back... I donno the usual highschool birth of a wrestler stuff... i could only imagine collegiate wrestling horrors....

-high intense training
-aggression

would you like to be a kickboxer against someone who could take you to the ground an get ontop and beat the shit out of you?

just there b/a thats it they are hardcore.

Part of it is the weeding out process - only the toughest guys are left after the cut. One might say good wrestlers are born, not made. The competition of training with a team also is a factor. As far as the type of 'work', throwing around another body is much harder than lifting weights conventionally. You're training several types of endurance, plus quickness and power.

They develop a big engine in a small(er) body than normal. They also train parts of the body that many sports neglect - neck, grip, core.

Its definitely the weight cutting, cutting 20+ lbs over a couple days can push anyone to their breaking point. In college it is even worse trying to balance school in with everything. Our coach always said "School, wrestling, and a social life, you can only have two of these".

Seriously though, if you can drop that kind of weight that fast, competition day is nothing

natural selection

at the start there are like 100 regular people who wants to wrestle

after one year from this 100 survive only 5

this 5 are genetic-athletic high value human specimens

and yes, top wrestlers are born not made

From being a national champ in college, in my opinion its the mental and physical toughness.  We have been training at high intesities our whole wrestling career.  Workouts similar to crossfit and other mma training that is now becoming popular.

Its only a matter of time where any fighter in the game will have the same edge.

Its also the only martail art that you go 100% everytime you practice and compete.

Other martial arts you go at most 90%.  If you go 100% and without pads you usually get or give injuries.

Try training in my Kutting Weight suits as well.  Heat resistance does make you stronger like any form of resistance.

best,

Dustin

Most college wrestling coaches are of the opinion that they would rather have the season start after the holidays and go into the spring so they do not compete against basketball for media attention at the end of the season along with making the season a bit shorter.  October to March is a bitch.

WRESTLING

When does the wrestling season normally start? Is there anything with most wrestlers being born in certain months?

There's something with most NHL players being born in Jan, Feb and March because with hockey training starting that young they're the ones that were biggest to start, did the best and got the most attention from coaches. I figure with most wrestlers starting around grade 8 this would probably factor in a bit less, but I figure it could matter somewhat.

Here's a better question. What makes wrestlers THINK they're so badass? Because every time i roll with one of them i destroy them with my BJJ

Give them 6 months and see how you do.

Halz -  Give them 6 months and see how you do.

What happens in 6 months?

u get owned after 6 months

Brasco - u get owned after 6 months

Really? How does that work since I'm 6 months better as well.
I've grappled with the same guys from highschool who went on to wrestle though college. They still have no answer. I know its hard for wrestlers to hear but your skill is limited.

I think it would be tough to argue this, seeing as wrestling has weight divisions and hockey doesn't. (AFAIK)

The hockey study suggested that because of when the hockey training starts, kids who just make the cut-off for age have a better shot since they are bigger and slightly more developed than kids who are further down the timeline. (e.g., if the hockey team has tryouts when school starts in September, and kids in school at that given grade level have birthdays ranging from January to December, the kids born in January and February will of course likely be more developed as a group than the kids born in November and December by virtue of being a few months older)

Maybe, just maybe this would have some application to wrestling if you removed the size factor and just considered neuronal development in the kids who are a few months older, but I imagine that would be way small compared to all the other factors. Empirical question, though.....

Good point about weight classes. That does seem like it would really balance things out in that department.

It would be interesting to see some longitudinal studies done of wrestlers, starting at young ages and then seeing when they drop out and why.
