Whatever happened to Jason Black?

UFC 77 was aired the other day and he was on that card and I got to wondering what the fuck ever happened to him? He lost on that night and it was his last fight in his career,vs Matt Grice. It was a great fight though. Very close.

He was a beast. 21-0 at one point. MSF guy.

I don't know how the fuck he made 155. Joe Silva said he looked like Abe Lincoln with rabies at a weigh in. He was fucking huge for that weight class.

inn and his cut to 155 must have been hell

In for follow up. I remember him very well.

He was a 170 guy that cut to 55 since Hughes was the ww king, no?

The timeline is hazy. Maybe someone has more knowledge on this than I do. I could be completely talking out of my ass. Mike C used to post here a good bit. He was a MFS guy maybe he knows.

It's interesting to hear about some of the inner workings of those super camps from that era. MFS,Team Quest,Lion's Den,etc

Again not entirely sure but I believe that was part of it but they fought in different organizations when Matt Hughes was UFC champ. He didn't have a UFC fight until after Hughes lost the belt to GSP. So that sorta confuses me.

Maybe he waited for Hughes to lose the belt and then sign with the UFC but he still fought at 155 in 2 UFC fights so idk and Hughes was fighting for the belt at UFC 79 two months after Black lost to Grice.

Jens Pulver was champ at 155 and defended the belt 2 times and left over money and that title was vacant from 02-06. Maybe something to do with that.

I may be completely wrong but I think he took some type of job within the railroad industry.

Hype machine.

Same guy who got tuned up by Thiago Tavares

You can add Philip Miller to this thread. Both guys had promising careers ahead. I'd imagine the money back then wasn't enough to make a living so they had to make choices to leave.

Yep 16-0 with 12 finishes with a win over a young Jake Shields and a 9-1 Mark Weir fresh off the Eugene Jackson starching

I and the trip to MFS for a couple weeks and Jason was a freakin work horse. He basically lived at the gym and always took the time to toll, spar or hit pads. He was a beast and a really good guy the couple weeks I knew him.

Joe O'Brien - I remember hearing he was in it mostly for money and never had his heart into it 100%.

Makes sense. He did retire young. I think he was like 33 or 34.

He peaked before his UFC time

Amasing dude and tough as they come. I will never forget him winning the Belt in Montreal. Sick night of fights!!!
I heard he works for the Train company i n Iowa, but that was a decade ago!!
