He just appears very stubborn to me and not particularly smart in the octagon. Someone has to convince him that he his striking will never be his strong point, due to a lack of power but even more important, his t-rex length arms. He's just wasting his energy out there trying to bang with people.

It's very clear that Gurgel does not have faith in his ground game or something, otherwise had he contained any confidence in it he would use it.
Therfore, he knows he is not a KO machine and figures, well I'm just going to walk out of here with my show money, so I might as well go balls to the fucking wall and maybe I can hang out in the org for awhile longer and get a bonus. WHich this time worked for him.

i mean, look at Damian Maia, his fight was very exciting for the fans and it was ALL jiu jitsu.
He's a better fit for the WEC imo.
