Whenever I hear him talk I get the vibe he is full of shit. I don't know why, I just don't think he is a very high level coach based off his interviews and the way he talks about MMA
But at the same time Conor has ridiculous amounts of skill and talks a lot about loyalty to his camp.
Did Kavanagh teach him all he knows? Is Kavanagh responsible for that laser beam left hand and his slick movement? Or is Kavanagh just a "head coach" who puts the camps together and Conor has a different striking coach?
I just dont buy it that this dude is a high level coach, but I could be wrong. Educate me
Obviously he's legit. He's like the first bjj black belt in Ireland. He's always been Conor's coach. He has other fighters in the ufc too. I'm not saying he's a super coach, i dont know, but Conor didnt teach himself to fight. He had a little boxing, other than that he pretty much started at scratch with Kavanagh.
He's definitely a high level coach, teaching and learning all the time. He has world class guys and girls in the UFC, not just Connor.
Wether you like him or not is your own opinion I guess.

Well considering how Conors grappling looks I don't think he gets much credit for being a good coach based on that.

Duh he is legit
Yeah like the above poster said, he has multiple students in the UFC now, but Conor was the first I believe. Definitely a legit coach
I get what you mean, OP. I think it's because of how much we hear about him that he gets that aura that he's a joke like seagal and Dolce used to get

Eddie Bravo disagrees.
BTW Conor's grappling is understated in some ways. TDD looked great on Saturday. Swept Nate in the first fight. Word from people with real experience against him is that his ground game is solid. Struggled against Mendes but that one fight (where he caused a scramble, got up and KO'd his opponent) has fed this crazy idea that he's dogshit on the mat. It's simply not true.
screen name 2 - Yeah like the above poster said, he has multiple students in the UFC now, but Conor was the first I believe. Definitely a legit coachYeah but is he the one showing the techniques? Is he actually coaching the high level fighters or does he have a team of coaches doing it. I'm not trying to hate on Kavanagh, I'm curious because he doesn't seem to have much of a fighting background himself and he has such high level striking coming out of his camp, or atleast with Conor is he the one teaching those techniques?

I get the feeling they may have an in house striking coach. Kavanaugh strikes me more in the mold of a Firas Zahabi or Greg Jackson rather than a Pat Militech
Andrewsimar Palhardass -Yeah he stopped Nate Diaz from taking him down a few times but also got taken down by Nate in both fights, that's not good, the fact Nate can even threaten him that much with takedowns shows he isn't on that high of a level.sagemma -HeHitsMeBecauseHeLovesMe - Obviously he's legit. Who does Nate takedown? Nates not a wrestler at all yet taking McGregor down is something he can do, so if Nate can take him down, how good can his takedown defense really be? Imagine if he was fighting a real wrestler.

He's just normal and down to earth so the fact he doesn't act at all like a hard case just confirms your preconceptions

Ever seen Gunni Nelson grapple?
Does the fact DC isn't much of a kick-boxer mean AKA have shit striking coaches?
Cause Cain and Luke may beg to differ.

He's no Bud Winter
But I've heard he's pretty good
I've trained with JK and can attest to his wizardry. The guy is a monster on the mats, who has an eye for detail. He is a high level BJJ black belt, who can hold his own against the best.
John was one of the first mixed martial artists in Ireland and has amassed a huge amount of knowledge. He is respected by a lot of people in the sport around the world.
Here he is competing against a Roger Gracie black belt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_ZeT8iEG5I
I feel like mcgregor is so good that he would have succeeded under any decent teacher. Maybe mentally they really click, but the way conor was training for fights before this one was sub par
He took paddy holahan ash Daly and cathal pendred from scratch and turned them into fighters that can easily hang in the UFC so I would say he is legit
Vital to Conor's mma career, 100%. High level mma coach.? Imo no.
