when you first started bjj

did anyone else here think were they first started bjj that your coach would be impressed if you didnt tap easy lol? i remember a couple times i tried not to tap on a very deep armbar or kimura only to have a sore arm for a few weeks and him not give a shit then i realized this is practice, why risk injury? lol and a couple of my friends tried the same thing i accidentally popped one of their elbows
anyway does anybody have any stories or know anyone that actually passed out or popped their arm from not tapping?

ttt... very nice delivery tho darkborne

I'm retarded, but I still try to not tap unless I think I will pass out. I only train once in a long while, but unless I think I will have permanent damage I try not to tap. It's a pride thing, I try to make up for lack of skill and conditioning by just being tough. Sometimes it works, sometimes not so much. I'm fairly strong and have little technique, so I hate the gi. I can power out of subs better without it.

People do this all the time. Just tap..... If I get joint locks on people and they try to tough it out I just give up the sub. It's stupid, you're not there to get hurt.

Butttt...... a guy at our school was working for a single leg one time. He grabbed his own collar with the arm that he had wrapped around the leg. So he wouldn't lose the leg.... The other guy sat down on the back of his neck/ top of his back, held his belt, drove his hips down, and the guy on bottom went to sleep. He kind choked himself out. I also put  a guy out with a north/south choke one time. It must have been really tight cause he didn't tap and he was out realllllllly quick. He tried to bridge and roll as soon as I got it, and when it didn't work he flattened back out, and it was done. That was weird.

lol, just tap dude, it's just rolling

YumYumPandaburger - lol, just tap dude, it's just rolling

exactly

i remember getting headaches later  on after being choked in class

I usually try and tap as soon as i recognize there's no way out. But i do try an escape, or i ask my partner to stop with my in that position, and work on escapes from there. The only way to learn is to tap.
