Bit of a FRAT & some thinking out loud - i got a real good offer on a place to buy just past Geelong - it would mean a literal seachange for me, moving from country Vic to the surfcoast. Thats all BS, the only thing i need to know is where to train down there?
Im a Machado BJJ student so JBW is the obvious place for submissions is JBWs Black Belt Studios but my ultimate & long term goal is MMA - so where else in that area can i cover the rest of the game? I know i can attend JBWs shootfighting as a foundation but ill be looking to expand on that.
Boxing shouldnt be hard to find, Paul Murdoch is from there & apparently theres another big gym (Jim someone?) down there.
What about Muay Thai & wrestling? Me thinks ill have to make a trek to Melbourne on the Fri night to the cave to get smashed by Team Rev & then maybe an open mat at Dominance on the Sat... any thoughts? Maryanne? Anyone?
no theres kickboxing gyms in geelong....boxing there jimmy cheatist(sp) on torquay hwy,bobby murdock(pauls dad)in corio..les okeffe in drysdale(absolutly amazing boxing skills) no wrestling....but if you want to spar mma theres still a few of us that get together
No point moving to Geelong... I'm not there anymore! ;-)
Anyway, I used Black Belt Studios for BJJ classes (Tues and Thurs), and for Shootfighting classes (Mon and Wed).
Rev's is great for submission grappling and MMA on a Friday night.
And the Dominance open mat on a Saturday is great as well.
Can't go wrong- and all works out to be around 8 sessions a week. Now you just gotta find a job to work around those sessions, that's where I had my trouble... :-O
Ha - for now im trying to get into CIT (cash in transit) so hopefully the hrs will roll around bank hrs (i think thats about 10am-1pm these days).
Even though ill be changing jobs, i still plan to finish my studies (customs brokerage) & hopefully open my own business from home down there in a few years. Plus, im bouncing in the city at the sec., i can always keep that if i need to, but id love to be able to afford not to have to works nights & days...
My training in Geelong is last century now, but you would do well to chase up Rocky Pirotina for Boxing down that way. He used to work Security with me at Rebar in about 1997, not sure where he is now, but worth enquiring around and see if anyone knows?
im sure Maddog or Glen Walsh will be able to point me in the direction of someone, but i dont want to tell my current coaches yet, in case it doesnt happen.
