Not my story but an old friend of mine actually got to roll with Helio Gracie. This was about 12 years ago. He said was about 300 pounds and actually really trying and Helio just let him work some things and then swept him, laughed and then got him in a gi choke.
Pretty awesome to get to roll with one of the OG's, the man was in his 80's and able to tap people who were training regularly. I kept asking him to repeat the story because I was in awe, like "you were really trying, seriously" he was a really big heavy guy, fat but a good athlete for his body fat.
I regret not making an effort to get on the mat with Helio back in the day. I'm sure I could have made it happen. I also regret not going to Rickson to get to roll with him.
A real good black belt told me I absolutely had to do it just so I could feel it, he said it was beyond anything you would imagine since he was far beyond everybody else. I told him I heard his private classes had a 6 month waiting list and he said you don't have to take a private to roll with him, just find out what class he is teaching and visit the school and I promise you he will roll with you. The friends of mine who did get to roll with him said the same things you hear everybody else says, things that many here love to doubt.
