UFC lightweight Josh Thomson got a lot of people riled up yesterday when he posted some comments on Facebook regarding gay marriage. Some UFC athletes have been fined or suspended in the past for inappropriate comments, however according to UFC President Dana White, Thomson will be not be suspended or find for his 'asinine' comments:

"He didn't say anything negative. He didn't say anything bad. He didn't say anything against gay marriage or gay people. He just posed the question. Is it stupid? What he put down was probably the dumbest thing I've heard. He should probably get a hobby like finger painting, or something, and leave talking to smart people. That's probably what he should do. That would probably be really good for him, but we don't stop people from having their own opinions.

He doesn't like gay marriage -- that's his opinion. He didn't hurt anybody, he didn't say anything negative. He just said that if people were able to do what they think is fun, or what makes them happy, when does it end? What he said was asinine and absolutely just the stupidest gibberish I've ever seen in my life. He should stick to finger painting or fighting and leave the talking to smarter people. He didn't hurt anybody."

Uncle Tom move by Dana IMO. Phone Post 3.0

Those comments by Dana don't exactly scream intelligence either. But I'm glad they're leaving Thompson alone. Phone Post

Hi Roy Phone Post

Good, the tired old Voltaire quote is applicable here.

Finger painting comment had me laughing pretty good, but at least he isn't getting dicked for his posts

How can every "incident" be the dumbest?
Someone should ask Dana White to now list in order the dumbest things his fighters have ever done or said. Phone Post

Dana would know a stupid comment. He's made plenty himself. Phone Post

seeing Dana say this makes me hate him even more, not that I'm against what he said in the past but he says the most hate speech than any other corporate leader in the public eye

I don't like this idea that fighters lose their freedom of speech. Yeah, I get that saying something offensive can reflect negatively on the company. But it seems that we are on a road that is starting to define "offensive" as anything Dana disagrees with. "He didn't say anything against gay marriage..." Really? So if he had, then what? If he had said, "I'm against gay marriage" that would have been labeled offensive and he could have been fined or fired? That's ridiculous. Gay marriage is a political issue that the nation is not in agreement on. How can the UFC dictate what their fighters say on the subject?

"Fag" or "faggot" I get. But having an opposing view of gay marriage, or even of homosexuality itself, shouldn't be any of the UFC's damn business.

freedom of speech does not apply here, freedom of speech allows you say things and not get arrested for it, it doesn't protect you from not getting in trouble with your employer

It applies on a moral level. The UFC should not be able to dictate what their fighters believe, what positions they hold on the issues of the day or what they say about those things. Grossly offensive language is one thing, and I get it. But when the ufc starts to make that claim about just holding a certain political position that goes too far imo. Phone Post

TopGrinder - I disagree with Josh's opinion but its just that and its none of the UFC bizz. I want UFC fighters able to speak their mind without repercussions of getting fucked by the man. Fighters are already way underpaid , they fear they might get cut every fight, they get fucked over for sponsor money.

Talk about keeping the fighters down.... The rich just get richer. Phone Post 3.0

This is nonsense. Every company has rules about how you represent their company and code of conduct stuff.

With fighters doing interviews, and posting on social media representing their company, they have rules to follow. Phone Post

Wait so Diaz gets fined for calling Caraway a fag.

But when Thomson compares those same "fags" marriage to incest and child molestation its fine?

Learn to stick with your opinions Dana.

Josh didn't come out and say 'fags' lol?

Personally I think calling someone a straight person a faggot is far less offensive than comparing homosexuality, a normal lifestyle option, to pedophilia. Phone Post 3.0

I never stated that he did call them fags. I was simply using the same term that Nate did.

What I'm trying to say is, Nate called a straight man a fag and got punished for it. But Josh just offended millions of homosexual people by comparing their private life to incest and paedophilia.

Personally I don't care what he says, everyone has their own opinion but what he said is much worse than what Nate did but no action is being taken.
