they have purple short ^... why did you not get those?
^^ cool
I think you guys need to lighten-up a bit.
They are just pair of shorts afterall.
Heck, if only black belts bought the blackbelt shorts, then they would barely sell any.
Unless of course your school has a system of graded shorts, then that would be an obvious exception.
But even then they sell BB 10th Planet shorts, as mentioned I don't think Eddie has ever promoted anybody to balck yet, so who is buying them unless it's just folks who like the shorts?
The same thing goes for the belt, at least colourwise.
At my gym people are alwasy turning up and forgetting their belts or begginers will walk in and get loaned a gi. In both cases they just get thrown the first spare belt that comes to hand, regardless of the colour.
So it's not unusual to have purlpes and browns wearing white belts or beginners in brown belts.
That said I might get pissed if I caught somebody wearing my belt, because I can be a little superstitious at times - lol.
Although this did worry me a little:
At that point, I had it in my head that if I ever saw him walk on the mat with those shorts on, I'd make sure they wouldn't be on anymore by the time he walked off the mat.
Furacao -spider guard -checkuroil - i care and think its disrespectful, especially since a lot of companies now make shorts with belt rank colors.
i dont walk around wearing a stethescope(sp?) and white coat and i work part of my time in a hospital
One of the attitudes I hate about BJJ.
Spiderguard - That's why your retired - lol
Nah, it's having 2 kids now that is killer. I still get to roll 1x/week, but I get to do crossfit 4x/week but I have to get up early to do it while everyone is still asleep.

i agree with the shorts, but i got to try the hospital thing.sounds like it would work
i dont think you should wear black belt shorts unless you are a black belt.
i know you wouldnt be allowed to do that in our academy.
and for 4Fingers that IMO is ridiculous. anyone in our academy who forgets their belt wears a whitebelt that day even if they are a blackbelt its kind of like a dunce cap. no way would it be ok for a whitebelt to wear a brownbelt its just no ok. idk maybe im crazy but that would really really bother me.

Wow... call me old fashioned but that is not ok with me.. Or at any school I have ever been too. Yes a higer ranked guy in a white belt because he forgot his, or a guy recently promoted and forgot his new belt and wearing his old one to train. But I have never ever seen a white belt wear a colored belt, and if one did by accident ( I have seen that before) they were told quickly that its not ok. my .02

yep
wow that white belt that just wore the brown belt...that's pretty weird to me
I wouldn't even feel right at all doing that
shorts are not a belt, it's lame, but unless your instructor uses those to denote rank, who cares.
over reaction
I thought I would never wear a BJ Penn type short until I was a black belt.
Then after reading this thread, I looked up his black shorts...man, they look kinda cool. Gotta admit I was tempted to get them.
question...are the shorts sold AS a belt ranking system?
My god...the worlds gonna end because this kid is wearing some shorts that HE BOUGHT with his hard earned money..people should learn to mind their own fuc^in' business...
btw..it's just a pair of shorts. If someone showed up wearing a belt they didn't earn, then there would be a problem..but a pair of friggin shorts? Who is that petty??
I personally don't like those shorts..but to each their own..they aren't a rank..they are SHORTS! lol
It's definately a little weird to wear those shorts if you aren't a Black Belt, considering all the other belt colors are available too.
I think they look cool, but would never wear them.

agreed
Everyone knows they are not a real blackbelt so there is nothing wrong with it.
BUT....be prepared to be mocked and potentially run into the ground by real browns and blacks if you decide to wear them.
Your choice.
How about just telling people before you roll that you arent a black belt, but just like the way the shorts look?
I dont think anyone will take offense to that.
