Kiev didn't fully recover. As pointed out above it used to be a huge trading city and the center of Russian culture in the early middle ages

Forgive me for not being in awe though...And this: Yah, I considered the more modern colonial empires, but then decided that those were generally the result of generations of effort coupled with the fact that the ruling monarch remained at home rather than doing any actual conquering, so I ruled them out. would apply to the Catholic Church as well....

I always remember Alexander as "conquering the known world".

He didn't invade china, but I think if he had he would have won it as well. The reason I point that out is that Genghis kind of wins by default since his main thing was China who was always being conquered and wasn't really a unified place to fight back.
