I think the sport is still climbing in quality and is yet to see a peak so the best guard guys at the elite level now are the best ever IMO, at least in sporting terms.

One of the best MMA guards has to go to Bustamante. He used it to defend off a massive Tom Erickson.
It's a generational thing, hard to compare people that weren't in their primes together, but Rafa Mendes has to be at the very top of the list.

I don't know who has the best guard but I do have two points to make
1) I think Braga Neto has the best guard at ultra heavy, not Cyborg
2) For whoever was asking, Roger got his guard passes(or close enough that he had to turtle) the first time he fought Demente.
Also, has anyone besides Roger passed Romulo's guard in the gi?

Best of all time? Roleta has to be in the running, as does PedePano. Roleta changed the game.
Romulo is up there with Braulio for middle-heavy. I find their guard games very similar, but I think Braulio has more weapons from his guard with a better closed guard. Romulo has sick control with ridiculous grip strength. But with his injuries, Romulo has clearly lost a step.
I also agree Tyler Bishop, Mendes's guard is overlooked. He sweeps opponents at will and once he sweeps, his pass game is so strong he is rarely swept back. Aggressive guard that forces opponents to either choose to be swept or have their back taken.

50/50 works great in MMA. I use it all the time in MMA sparring.
