Who said Goalies are unstable?

I've been a hockey goalie for a long time. Every time someone finds out I'm a goalie they have some wise ass comment about how goalie are totally unstable and have a few screws loose. Here's fourteen minutes of pure gold that proves all those people are %100 correct.

I've played net for 27 years.

When it comes to my game, I am absolutely unstable.

I am an emotional wreck 20 minutes before game time and every save has to be made. If I give up goals in my mind my players think I am terrible.

It is what drives me to be the best I can be.

I have a tourney coming up in 2 weeks and right now I am a mess of nervous energy and I fight everyday to keep my mind right.

Two rules, man: Stay away from my fuckin' percocets and do you have any fucking percocets, man? Phone Post 3.0

Played for 20+ years. Mostly all in net except a few foot hockey leagues where I would play wing. I've been retired for 5 years now and miss it. I got rid of most of my gear except my skates and shorts. I think I kept a few of my Arthurs Irbe Jofa cages, too.

From my experience we're the most mentally stable position in all of sports. Just make sure my water bottle is on the right side of the net, don't touch my pads with your stick until it's the actual game, refer to me as my number (33) and play the fucking pass on a two on one because I'm coming out high and challenging.

I've been on some many ends of that youtube video I have PTSD

I have to touch both my posts equally. Before each period I bang my right pad first with my butt end, then my left. Then I flip my stick over and bang them both at the same time with my blade. Lick clockwork.

I get dressed right to left.

Between periods when I skate to either end of the ice, at the blueline I lift my right skate only touching the blueline with my left.

I will lift my helmet on top of my head but I will never take it off while on the ice on my own accord because the magic and luck will leak out.

I promise I do not have issues.

So true lol Phone Post 3.0

I've played for 34 years but I have definitely mellowed over time. When I played junior I had so many idiosyncrasies and rituals it was just plain stupid. The only thing I don't deal well with is getting scored on. In my mind I should be able to stop any and all pucks. If you have a goalie who doesn't care about getting scored on its time to find your team a new goalie.

Thanks for posting boys!

Growing up I played Rep as a player, and didn't start being a goalie until bantam. I was a better goalie than I was a player, and I was a pretty decent player Phone Post 3.0

Had no idea goalies were borderline ocd with their routines and rituals, not shocked though, good thread. Phone Post 3.0

aren't most hockey players kind of spastic?

Most culty sport ever.

If you want to get inside the head of a goalie, watch the ESPN short on Malarchuk - http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=9255400

In juniors, coaches always had the goalies room together cuz they were a bit odd/ had weird rituals and such (how they spread their equipment out, stretching, bedtime, etc). Phone Post 3.0
