Who trains with headgear?

I am going to start more so i can avoid unnecessary cuts and such. Why do you wear headgear and why not? Phone Post 3.0

You wear headgear to prevent damage to your face. You stop wearing it because your vision goes to shit, you face itches a horrible, unsearchable itch (hard to itch with boxing gloves on) with melted Vaseline running down your face and you get punched and you are looking through your ear-hole absorbing punches you can't see.

I do. Cuts down on scratches and headaches. Phone Post 3.0

I do, to prevent cuts/injury to my training partner from accidental headbutts or head pressure against the cage in MMA. I hate headgear personally, and would prefer to spar without it Phone Post 3.0

Definitely helps to prevent cuts, but the only time I get headaches is when I wear headgear. Phone Post

Headgear helps head movement too. Adding another 1" to your forehead, when people land that punch with you wearing headgear, you get an extra 1" of space once you remove the head gear Phone Post 3.0

Wear. You can only turn a lightbulb off and on so many times before it goes out. Phone Post

This is a good point that I never thought of. I have heard people complain that headgear makes sparring more dangerous because it is easier to punch someone in the head when they are wearing it since it makes their head bigger, but I never looked at the increased size of your head being a positive for training head movement Phone Post 3.0

Headgear does not prevent or reduce braindamage. I like to use it because it simulates reduced vision for younger or more inexperienced fighters. Similar to what they may experience in competition when the stress of a fight sets in. Tunnel vision is a very common side effect for someone who is under 'survival stress' in a fight.
