Who wants to see 5x3 rounds?

I think it will help with judging and make fights more interesting. There is so many rounds which are hard to score because both fighters have good moments of action at either end of the round. This way you have more rounds to score giving a better chance for the right decision.

Plus there is more chance of it being exciting as well. Strikers can push more knowing if they are taken down there will be less time spent down and knowing that loosing one round will not have the same impact on the score cards. Plus grapplers will have to be more aggressive in pursuing take downs and submissions because they will have less time to work.

By no means perfect but will be interesting to see.

yes

I'm kinda for it, though I think it's a little short. 4 minutes would be ideal but then 3×4 is too short and 5x4 is too long.

Hell no.

We need LESS judging, not more.

1 15-minute round. If no KO or sub, then it is a DRAW. No more judges, and fighters will have a compelling reason to try to finish, instead of getting ahead on points then running/stalling.

I loved the Pride 10 minute first round.

Nope, sucks for bjj guys trying to set something up

1 - 10 min round, 1 5 min round

Definitely against the 5x3. Submissions are already not overly common, they’d pretty much become extinct if MMA moves toward that model.

i‘m against everything that brings mma closer to boxing, so NO!

God no.

Pancrase has 3x3min prelims, and they are usually fun as fuck, but I would NOT want to see 3 min rounds at the highest levels of the sport.

MMA uses a bastardized version of boxing’s 10-point must. Which is absurd for a competition that typically only has 3-round contests. The sport deserves to have it’s own unique scoring system and ideally, rounds should only serve as breaks in a fight. But that’s just a pipe dream in the US.

I’m all in on 1X10. If the judges unanimously give it to one guy, it’s done. If it’s a split, do a 3 minute sudden-death.

Guys would fight more often, I think Chael is onto something.

StevetheWeasel - No. It wouldn't allow any time to work on the ground.

I’d much rather see longer rounds, if anything.

I disagree how often do you see a fighter have more than 3 minutes to pursue a sub on the ground? I think the shorter round allows the striker to be more aggressive and forces the grappler to be more aggressive

3 min for MMA. WTF?

Prob get a lot more finishes this way.

In my opinion, this has been the best format we’ve seen.

Yup.

One 10-minute round with no scorecards then one 5 minute round that’s scored. Allow soccer kicks and knees to the head always. Same with downward strikes and elbows. Same hour weighing with hydration tests.failure of weight or hydration test is a huge penalty and alternates are weighed in and on standby.

Exactly. I’ve been saying for years how dumb it is to use the boxing type scoring for 3 round fights! Even more so as so few 10-8s and no 10-7s are given. In boxing, with 8, 10, 12 rounds it does make sense. More chances of point deductions too - which are way too harsh in MMA - and knockdowns are obviously easy to score in boxing.

The problem is thus the judging and how it is scored, not the 3 rounds.
