Dave Schultz, Kurt Angle, Tom Brands, Steve Knight, Jeff Prescott, 17 total, who else? Just curious....
Mark Kerr might have been. In 1999, he was on the cover of GAIN (with Mario Sperry) wearing Foxcatcher sweatpants.

A guy mamed Solomon was there. DuPont kicked him off when he became obsessed with death, and since black is supposedly the color of death Solomon got kicked off. DuPont made a comment like, "Foxcatcher now belongs to the KKK." Kenny Monday and someone else tried to get him banned or reprimanded, but to no effect since DuPont was putting a lot of money into USA Wrestling. Source- Time magazine, circa '96 Olympics.
How common is this type of arrangement (but on a smaller scale) nowadays? Do super-wealthy (but sane)patrons still commonly 'take care of'/employ/sponsor elite wrestlers? (though not on such a grandiose scale as Foxcatcher)?
Was Foxcatcher unique as the only elite wrestling team ever to be owned by one guy, or was it just unique because the owner went insane and killed the coach, thus making headlines?
Jove,
I don't know how common or unique it is for a wealthy individual to spot a sports team but Dupont was involved in the swimming national body, before being invoved in foxcatcher wrestling, if memory serves me correctly. Organized swimming got tired of him and gave him the boot.
Of course, there have been corporations such as Sunkist and Sunoco who have sponsered wrestlers and USA wrestling, respectively.
USA Wrestling ought to have been wiser given what they knew or should have known about Dupont. They paid with the loss of their favorite son.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true....
I guess that the Olympic Training center(s) fill that need now, tho the athletes still need to work elsewhere to support themselves.
But what if the Real Pro Wrestling concept worked out? (eventually) Investors would invest in shares of wrestling teams.....that would not be a bad thing? If it ever became popular enough to turn a profit...
