Who wrote Iron Maidens coolest guitar riffs?

Mostly the intros like Wasted Years and 2 Mins to midnight type stuff.

Those really catchy riffs. Who wrote most of that? Phone Post 3.0

I thought it was Steve Harris

Dave Murray.

Steve Harris wrote about 80-90% of the songs in the 80s-90s, now it's about 60-70%. So there's a good chance a riff you like is from him. But for the two songs you mention, it's probably Adrian Smith.

Steve Harris's daughter ain't half-bad either, eh?

ttt

Adrian wrote a lot of their awesome stuff, riff wise.

That being said, the way song writing credit is divided it's hard to say.

Adrian wrote Wasted Years by himself, I believe, which is why it has a more rock feel to it. Phone Post 3.0

Also on the last album, Harris had a credit on every song.

Him, Bruce do most of the writing with Adrian and Janick. Dave doesn't seem to write much anymore. Phone Post 3.0

^LOL! vu

Adrian Smith has a real knack for writing catchy riffs. He wrote all of Wasted Years, and most if not all of the riffs in 2 Minutes To Midnight -- Steve Harris helped him arrange the bits into one song, and thus gets a writing credit.

According to Bruce, 2MTM came about when Adrian started playing the riff and Bruce just started singing over it. Bruce & Adrian are a fantastic writing duo -- if you haven't checked out Bruce's solo albums with Adrian(Accident of Birth & Chemical Wedding), you're really missing out.

Steve is the mastermind of the band, and often will write and arrange entire songs on his own. Other times, band members will come to him with ideas, riffs, melodies, etc, and he will help them arrange it into a song (for example, Janick Gers brought him separate ideas which ended up being forged into songs like Dance of Death and The Legacy). He ultimately has the final say on everything Maiden related.

Dave contributes ideas for about one song an album nowadays (but when he does it's always fantastic), and Nicko has only ever written/co-written one: New Frontier off of Dance of Death.

I want to go to the Brazil/Argentina/Chile shows at the end of September/start of October.

Argentina and Chile have the craziest crowds in the world!!! And Brazil it's Rock in Rio with 250K+ fans.

My main issue for hesitating to go is the loooong travel times, and the super high rates of violent crimes (while traveling from place to place, not for the shows themselves)
