With all of this talk about the fighters getting paid more maney I don't see why they can't get the money from the ticket sales? Musicians already do this by getting 100% of tickets sold and the venue gets 100% of the liquor sales.
Here is a post on quora I found explaining how the bands and venues make money.
the answers below are perfect. Let me see if I can simplify, though. These days, the artist gets near 100% of the ticket sales (where it used to be about 50/50). That is where that money goes.
How does the venue make money, then? what's in it for them? In short - beer. Your local shed (the venue in your city that is half seating and half lawn) is about 16,000 people. You have a monopoly on selling every one of those people an $8 beer (whose cost is about 20 cents... and most of that cost is the cup) and a $6 pretzel.
Bonus interesting piece of economics -
As I understand it, Jimmy Buffet truly broke the mold (that Peter Grant pioneered with Zeppelin). Buffet sells SO much booze that he charges venues to play there. Think about it - Buffet plays your basketball/hockey arena (about 18,000 people). Imagine each patrol spends $30 on beer (and from what I understand, they are spending WAY more than that) - you have half a million just in beer sales.
Buffet did that? LOLOLL. That's what the hoods started in Florida in maybe the 80s, with nudie dancers - charge the girls. Sheriff buddy of mine who works here and there told me about it.
To answer your question, a band is an independent contractor, and organized.

Yes, bands are independent contractors but I see no reason why the UFC couldn't pay the fighters via the tickets sales seeing how the UFC makes their money through broadcasting rights, merchandise etc.
