why did Jackson say no to Chael?

 Doesnt really make sense...

Jones was in shape and set to face a similar fighter, just without the right hand

Chael had 0 notice, was presumably out of shape, just came up from 185 and basically has no chance to KO or submit jones...

why is greg jacskon so timid and conservative?

I have no idea. Worst decision ever. It just makes no sense.

 Because Chael is a joke.

He is coming off a loss at 185, where he is 5-3 in the UFC.

He left the UFC 205 division on a loss, where he went 1-2 overall.

lol @ this guy getting a title shot just because he talks endless amounts of shit about everybody. It's a joke and makes the sport look like a joke and makes the champion look like a joke for taking the fight. Chael has no business whatsoever being in the ring with Jones, is no threat whatsoever to Jones, and should not be rewarded for playing an asshole 24/7.

Jon Jones makes his own decisions, don't blame his trainer.

yeah, of course chael doesnt deserve it, but just a few days ago didnt Jones say he was in it for the money? Chael would actually draw higher PPV ratings....so did he refuse based on some moral high ground?

seems like chael would actually be the much safer and easier fight for jones

pretty sure its his trainer...thats what dana said and bones posted a message on twitter quoting Sun Tzu about warriors bringing their enemies to the battlefild not the other way around..pretty sure Greg is the one that spews this pretentious crap

Greg Jackson doesn't sign Jon Jones' name on fight contracts.

If Jon Jones wanted the fight he could have, and would have taken it.

Jones is young and heavily influenced by Greg. If you trainer is not confident in you winnin how can u be? This is all Greg Jackson being overly protective about his cash cow. Phone Post

he could have taken the fight, I don't understand. what's the down side for the fight? he loses?

imagine the rematch numbers!

He is a joke? You should watch the fighter bashing. Saying it would be a joke for him to get a title shot would be fine, but he is not a joke; he is one of the best fighters in the world and he doesn't deserve that kind of hatred. Phone Post

Compared to Jones he is a fuckin joke. He is in no way deserving of a fight against JBJ. Hell he didn´t deserve the rematch against Silva either...

Sonnen is at least in the same style of Henderson. It is not like Henderson was being replaced by a kickboxer.

I would have taken the fight since I too would have fought for the money (I'd have like 0.00001% chance to win). Makes no sense.

No Chael doesn't deserve a title shot in any normal circumstance but now he was willing to step up on short notice and save a PPV. Who else "deserves" it?

It wasn't a matter of whether or not he deserved it, it was a matter of saving the show. Presumably he was the only marketable fighter willing to fight. Jon would have gotten an easy fight, and wouldn't have wasted a training camp. Greg Jackson saying taking the Chael fight would be the worst mistake of his career is ludicrous. The worst that could happen is he could lose... so what? It's not like losing once will get him shunned from mma for the rest of his life. Losing, especially to someone as interesting as Chael, would only add to his story and personal journey, similar to St. Pierre losing to Serra, and Matt Hughes losing to Penn. If anything it will get him more fans because it will knock him down to earth.

IMHO,  I think its because they arent all too confident in Jone's ground game, and maybe they worried about the slightest chance of Sonnen able to get it there.

They would have gotten good pay, would have gotten an "easy" win. Why else would they want to turn it down?
