Why Did Jim Miller Walk to the Ring First? Odd.

He walked to the ring and was announced first. I thought that was odd being that he's never been finished and prior to his loss was on a HUGE tear in the UFC. Was the UFC assuming/hoping he'd lose and instead marketing Melvin Guillard? Or am I looking into it too much and maybe the decision for who walks out first was based on a coin-toss or something? He was not on TUF. Phone Post

So? Guillard was not a successful TUFer. I'd agree with you if he were fighting Joe Stevenson, Cole Escovedo, or Josh Ferguson. Phone Post

Melvin was also on a huge tear before the loss to Joe, 5 straight wins

 You're overthinking this

Because Melvin has been in the UFC longer, has more main card fights, and has been a main eventer before. Jim is awesome, but he has also flown under the radar for much of his career.

my guess is name recognition. guillard headlined a couple spike shows. this was miller's first main event in the ufc.

That's a shame because it's not Miller's fault he's flown under the radar. I think the UFC should've had him walk out first and market him much more in general, as a way to show their gratitude and recognition of his worth. They did the same thing with Frankie Edgar. It's almost as if they don't want these guys to do well. Am I alone on this or is anyone else noticing this trend? Phone Post

Affirmative action .

I don't care. I won my bet there and even called the method and round. Guillard really needs to work his sub defense.

Melvin is more popular that Miller.

Thats probably the only reason.

Melvin's from the South. Nashville card. Phone Post

The Loge - I actually think it has to do with who has been in the promotion the longest rather than who is more popular. <img src="/images/phone/apple.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

This, it's that way 99% of the time with the UFC, Except Champs of course

Melvin made it to the UFC about 3 full years before Miller.

About 16 fights for Melvin, to 12 for Miller in the UFC

I thought Miller coming out first was ridiculous as well.

Because he's the bigger star/more popular and well-known.

UFC have been doing this a long time, you only just worked this out? Phone Post

Thank you. I'll regard a long-time forum member and MMA expert's opinion higher than the bottom-feeding newbs that stormed the scene's.

P.S. Long live Fedor! Phone Post

If you have not noticed....the UFC usually sends out the underdog (blue corner) first.

That's the OP's point.

Melvin was a bigger name Doesnt mean he is was better

Actually, no ... they haven't. They typically bring in the higher ranked or "better" fighter second, KKM.

probably because it was held in TN and guillard is also a southerner.

Jim Miller was even forced to play a country song by CCR for the TN crowd of hillbillies.
