I know it's easier said that done, and he couldn't have just rushed in and tried it. But I truly believe that he did have some GOOD opporutinities to close up the fight and clinch. Like when they were exchanging close to the cage, I think if Randy had simply charged in and pushed Chuck to the cage things could have gone ALOT different. Almost seemed to me like Randy was actually trying to stand with chuck, ala Tito. Why didn't he atleast TRY to use his wrestling. I just don't understand.
I think at the end Randy must have thought he caught Chuck becasue he went in fast usually Randy is mroe methodical. Than he got caught.
Alright, fare enough. I guess he was in fact trying. Just seems like I remember at one particular point where he was just so close to Chuck and I remember yelling "clinch him"! Just seemed like had had to take one small step foward and he would have been body to body with Chuck. I'll have to watch it over though. Like i said, I definately understand that it's easier said than done.
Chuck trained and planned for this fight. Chuck had a pretty empty tank the first fight.
Oliver Fig
Maybe Chuck was better prepared, and nothing was different with Randy. He did get away rather easily on the one real attempt by Randy.
Damn I'm poting a lot, I must still be drunk.
Damn it, wish I could have just seen atleast one takedown.
Why doesnt any fighter that loses do whatever they were trying to do?
Adonis, its true actually.
Its hard to strike with someone that dont wanna.
Its hard to grapple with somone that dont wanna.
Just because you only train with those with only 2 weeks of fight experience doesnt make the rest of the game so, ok?
Chuck never really gave him the chance to IMHO.
Chuck was definitely not content to be pushed up against the fence and circled out.
It was all Liddell IMHO.
"he tried...its not that easy to clinch someone if they dont want to"
and
"Wait till you see Fedor try to clinch with Crocop, people will be asking the same questions when a straight left puts the russian to sleep."
Both 100% correct. Adonis you're slipping...
randy did win the standup last time, maybe thats why?
Belfort used poor footwork and was backed up into the fence.
Shane, grow up.
"ROFL @ goku saying "its hard to clinch with someone if they don't want to". Really? Tell that to vanderlei silva"
Silva is in his PRIME.
Randy is 40?
Why not compare him to MARK COLEMAN.
Coleman tried to takedown CRO CROP several times.
Cro Crop didn't want to go down and pick him apart.
You fools are hilarious. Coture was trying to close the distance THE ENTIRE FIGHT. As mentioned, if anything he was trying too hard and was eating leather...mainly a straight jab. The one time Randy did get in close Chuck starting firing everything he had in flurries to back Randy off...he was succesful. The KO came as a direct result of Randy trying to get inside without setting it up.
The question isnt why he didnt TRY to clinch, but why did he do so in such an uncontrolled fashion. Generally Randy has a solid gameplan and sticks to it, but he seemed to be reckless in his appraoch this time. Factor that in with Chuck making key adjustments (movement, circling out for angles, short crisp jabs) and you get a KO.
chuck trained to avoid the clinch and it seems to have worked
