Penn VS. Shields I. Jake has earned it. Do it on Showtime.
TTT for Penn v. Hughes or Penn v. GSP
Out of the 3....Hughes, Penn, and St. Pierre. I don't see UFC have two of their best three fight in a non title fight. This is a for sure main event no matter how you match it up. Might as well make it for the belt and the most possible pay. that way both the fans and the fighters get what they want.
why do UFC allow 'immediate rematch clause' in their contracts ?
You don't deserve an immediate rematch just because you were champion.
So any challenger that wins a title essentially has to beat the champ twice...just to make sure or something ?
Hughes was the champion, GSP is the champion that beat Hughes, so a rematch between the two is logical. Besides, BJ is injured and who knows how long for.
I agree with FingerorMoon. Immediate rematch is BS.
If you lose the belt, you should have to fight at least one other fighter of ranking to EARN that rematch. And I don't care how many times you've successfully defended the belt before you lose it......
On another note, I think BJ can still take Hughes on any given day, as can GSP. But Hughes only needs them to make one mistake to beat them, as well. In any event, I feel that Hughes needs to fight Karo or Diego (giving them THEIR just dues as they climb the rankings ladder as well), before he jumps back in to try to reclaim his belt.
Having Hughes fight Diego makes no sense. The UFC loses out on a headline championship belt by doing so.
Diego has to pass riggs first..
"Hughes got Demolished last fight!!"
This is why BJ fans rule. Its a legitimate question (with an easy legitimate retort, Hamma, read Orcus' post) but they always have to take it juuuuust a tad too far
"Yeah but one is doable and the other is not. Cardio can be increased in a yr but becoming a natural phenom cant."
True but training/work ethic, focus, undying tenacity and heart are many times hard to teach someone too.
"I agree with FingerorMoon. Immediate rematch is BS."
Hughes did get stomped in his last fight but he has had a career that speak for itself, he has earned the right to an immediate rematch simply because he was the long time and super dominant champ.
As good as BJ Penn is he has lost two fights in a row.
Penn doesn't technically deserve a title shot anytime soon. he needs to win more than just one fight before he gets a shot too.
Hughes should fight Karo first to save the Diego match up for a title shot IF he gets past Riggs.
Come to think of it the 170 division is ridiculously stacked.
Serra
Hughes
Penn
St. pierre
Diego
Karo... pretty cool when you think about it
Jake Shields... For all the women in Hawaii... Winner takes it.
I definitely would like to see diego vs bj.
My guess is Hughes said he would retire if not given the rematch.
