Why elbows but not headbutts?

i think that a good headbutt like a good elbow fucks your shit up. however both can be boring when thrown without ill intention and if overused. both can cause premature or disappointing stoppages due to cuts.

if you allow one why not the other?

I say bring back headbutts if you keep elbows

I'm all for bringing back headbutts, but I don't see why they should be linked to elbows.

they have similarities in the situations where they could be used. in the past headbutts were a point of discussion. now we are questioning use of elbows. they are used in close quarter combat in real life too. why not discuss them together?

Agreed, old school. And they shouldn't pause fights for incidental groin shots either, the rule should only apply to deliberate groin attacks. In the early days you fought through that shit instead of pausing the fight for a few minutes of ball petting like they do now.

Honestly i tried to think of why they are illegal and i have no clue. No worse than getting kicked in the head.

yeah and while wer're at it, why not biting? People bite in a real life fight. Like for example, a fighter would no longer be able to cross their leg over their opponents face when trying to secure an armbar, or else they risk losing a chunk of flesh. Current rules are biased in favor of non-biters IMO.

^ protect yourself at all times.

Headbutts are like soccer kicks... not palatable.

i can see the point of this argument, but then again, how are elbows any more "palatable"? which sport, even combat sports allow for elbows. not boxing, wrestling, tkd, kickboxing (not including muay thai), judo, combat sambo, etc.

just about every argument for or against elbows can be made for or against headbutting.

Because Antidote

Ultimately it is unpalatable for audiences... but originally, it was a BeGayGay conspiracy against Mark Coleman.

antidote basically finished brian johnston with them.

Decider beat me to it.

The extent that the bjj nerds detested coleman and everything that he stood for was pretty hilarious.
