The UFC doesn't seem to be in much of a hurry to crown a champ at 185 or 155. Maybe it's because they've been burned so many times. They crown a champ, then their champ decides that he is worth a lot more than the UFC is able (or willing) to pay. Then the champ refuses to fight, regardless of whether his contract is up (Barnett, Bustamante, Pulver) or even if he has more fights on his contract (Ortiz). Hell, even a exclusivity clause is no guarantee that their champs will actually follow it (Penn).
After all of this nonsense, it's little wonder that they are reluctant to crown five champions at any given time. Also, there have been many rumors over the last couple of years that the 155 lb. division could be on it's way out.
Dana and company cannot seem to hold champs so they are afraid to crown em IMHO.
I guess if you cannot pay champ salary then you better not make champs.
I have another theory why they're reluctant to crown a 155 champ: A lot of the fights in this weight class tend to go the distance when the fighters are evenly matched (as they are in the case of title fights). Having a 155 champ would lead to the possibility of a five round snoozer that the UFC would be obligated to put on their PPV every other or every third event.

How many more people does Yves have to fight before he gets a belt? He has won 6 straight. If the people want Serra, he'll fight Serra. If they want Genki, he'll fight Genki. He is 6-1 in the UFC at 155, no other lw has that record. He has won 6 consecutive UFC fights, no other active UFC fighter has that record. He gets paid peanuts, every lw in the UFC has that record. Make a title and the UFC will have to start paying Yves market value which they will not do!!!
Edwards/Serra was at 155. Serra won the decision.

I've been told by people who personally know Yves and Matt that Genki has refused to fight them
Genki was scheduled to fight Yves at UFC 41 but Genki pulled out due to "injury" and fought in K-1 a week later.
fight was 2 short to say josh was tooling yves.

it really sucks the UFC put it on the backburner now

Genki is a legend, and Yves is also a legend. I think that the division should stay, as those 3 seem to be very loyal guys. Yves and Serra just sit back and beat people up, don't talk shit about the various organisations they could be fighting in. Genki, I think, if given a chance, would kick some serious butt and be a big UFC favourite... as long as he comes to the octagon dressed like Buckethead again!
Yves is the top-ranked UFC LW but I would rank him #5 in the world. and I think he needs to REALLY beat Franca not win some BS decision before he wins the gold. I'm not saying Franca was the clear winner either but that fight was a draw or split dec for Hermes Yves did not win that fight
This division is still up in the air IMO. I really don't think Yves is the best of the bunch. Serra beat him, Franca should have got the JD, Thompson looked like he would have won but made that one mistake and got KTFO. But then again Yves could KO any of them given the chance so who knows. Over the next three shows they should have Serra/Yves and then Franca/Thompson with the winners fighting for the title. That would be the best way to handle it but they won't do that.
