This article provides some really interesting insight on Chinese MMA... or rather the lack thereof. It's a long and detailed (including lots of vids and pics) history lesson of the stunted development of Chinese martial arts after WWII. It's long but worth the read.

In for cliff notes.
Thanks, OP.
FRAT version from the article itself ... "Chinese people need to break away from their beloved tradition that has prevented them from fully embracing MMA. They must open their minds, adapt foreign training methods into their curriculum and train in modern martial arts (wrestling, grappling) in order to succeed in MMA. Then, finally, they may begin to use what is unique to Chinese Kung Fu, and adapt them to MMA to truly create a modern Chinese suitable for MMA (such as Sanda / Sanshou) that will grant them a unique competitive edge."

Thanks, OP.

Chinese mma fails because they have no ground martial arts.
Good read. Nice find OP.
Zuffa has secured a TV deal in china but havent announced it yet... it's supposedly as big or bigger than the televisa deal in mexico they just announced.
The right deal can change things for MMA in China.
As someone who has lived in China for the past four years, there is no emphasis placed on any youth sports in China. It is hard to trane UFC when you are in a classroom for 12 hours a day. I am pretty sure the government breeds their own athletes in some giant warehouse.
It's not a terrible article, but, it cannot be taken seriously with phrases like "Fuck this shit" and others thrown in.

Less mainstream article from a reputable news source, more blog post by passionate and knowledgeable MMA fan with a lot of time on his hands.
MMALOGIC -Not with their stale product and "just win baby" fights they have caused.

For a company with its roots in Hong Kong, and run by ethnic Chinese, there seems to be a ton of stereotyping and assumptions based on the experience of overseas Chinese, rather than mainlanders.
There is only one reason China doesn't produce MMA badasses: It's not an international sport, much less an Olympic sport. The article touches on it but couches it in so much bullshit it gets lost.
China has an almost entirely insular competitive sporting environment. If you do not come up in the system you do not join competitive sports. There is very little framework or opportunity to compete for people not in the system (nor cultural motivation) nor is there much room for international class athletes to compete outside of their sport, even on the downside of their careers.
This stands in opposition to the sporting cultures of Japan and the United States, which are not State led, but are very strong. Because there are market mechanisms that allow for competition in any sport that has a large enough following, fringe sports like MMA can grow with or without a corresponding international version. He uses Taiwan as the counter example, but unlike Japan, Taiwan does not have a terribly strong sporting culture to begin with. Its 21 Olympic medals put it in fine standing with powerhouses Lithuania and Trinidad and Tobago.
It's not that China doesn't have the talent: it is a powerhouse Judo country and has recently produced a crop of world-class boxers (notably: Zou Shiming). Its men's wrestling program is currently shit, but it's winning golds in women's wrestling and (if wrestling doesn't get cut) that should pay dividends for the male program.

It removes all legitimacy from the perspective though. It makes the person who wrote the blog come off as unintelligent and unable to form thoughts properly.
Because China didn't invent it so it's not good enough for the superior #1 state capitalist hate factory.
MMALOGIC -TUF China has been secured and unannounced as well

Great article. Thanks op
I have to ask = who the hell is OP?
MMALogic, hasn't it been verified by multiple people that you are full of shit and have no actual inside information at all? Like when your "source" told you Rashad was going to fight Silva?
Theirs been a few rumours about a china tuf in the works and that in turn means that their is a strong china tv deal being put in place for the ufc. But of course these are all still rumours......
